The latest by Somos as well as Brian Fallon's new record

 

Lights Begin to Dance by Cavalcades, probably my favorite release from last year.

 

The Dirty Nils is a band you guys should definitely check out. Saw them them linked to PUP in Spotify and now I can't stop listening to them.

I've been loving their new album recently. solid recommendation.

 

I fucking love that Jake. I've had both of Arca's albums in my "to check out" list for awhile now but this was the motivation I needed to finally listen.

 

These guys are just crushing it right now. Love the atmosphere.

I've been binging hard on Elsie the last few weeks, since seeing Brian on his Painkillers tour.

Is there anything out there like it? I already listen to a ton of Tom Waits, but that's just not scratching the itch. Anything else out there that falls in line?

 

Anyone else been digging PWR BTTM?

 

Just randomly stumbled upon 'Laura Gibson' and have her new album "Empire Builder" on my playlist right now and every time this song plays it catches my attention.

 

I also really enjoyed the rerecorded record "The Psychedelic Swamp" from 'Dr. Dog.'

I know it's hard to get past the fact that 'Forgive Durden' is dead but if you are looking for a great pop album, I think 'Cardiknox' put out one of the best ones this year so far.

Last year turned me onto 'Everything Everything' their latest album "Get To Heaven" was brilliant Brit-Pop-Rock.

These don't neccessarily sound a lot like The National, but some of my favorite "sad" albums are:

Pianos Become The Teeth - Keep You
Field Report - Marigolden
Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle
The Tower and The Fool - How Long

 

The Pianos and Julien Baker albums are definitely ones that I keep coming back to. I'll have to check out the Field Report and Tower & The Fool records. Thanks for the recs!

 

No problem. I also can't recommend sad stuff without mentioning one of my favorite sad songs ever, Elephant by Jason Isbell.

 

One of the most phenomenal post-rock bands on the goddamn planet.

 

excuse me tim minchin but are u forgetting Lowercase Noises

tbf he leans much, much more towards the ambient/drone side of post-rock in most of his music

 

I like Lowecase Noises, but I mostly hate ambient music. Ambient music is what people who like elevator music call elevator music.

 

i mostly use it to focus/study, deal with anxiety attacks, and help with nightmares, but i also enjoy it for its musical value and will listen to it solely for enjoyment

 

Be honest... nobody listens to it for enjoyment. That shit is so boring it should come with labels warning people to avoid listening to it while operating heavy machinery.
