True. Maybe Ghost on Ghost was just Beam's Working on a Dream for me. Ha

I do think he's tweaked a lot of what I most loved about those earlier records, though. Everything from the instrumentation to the way he sings is pretty drastically different than it was. I'll be interested to see what direction he goes in for his next album and how I feel about it.

I thought he struck a great balance on The Shepherd's Dog. Kiss Each Other Clean is kind of split down the middle between stuff I really love and stuff I don't really like at all.

 

Cool to see Andy Shauf get a mention. Surprised it didn't get more attention around here. I think I had it just outside of my top 10.

Also nice to see Courtney Marie Andrews, Laura Mvula, and the Honeycutters on your list. Going to check out some of the ones I haven't heard yet.

 

His singing/voice is a bit of an acquired taste no? I've listened to a bit of his stuff and have been meaning to give The Party a serious go but haven't gotten around to it yet.

 

Yeah this was a year with an insanely deep bench. There are like 45 honorable mentions there, all of whom I'd vouch for. Those 4 you mentioned in particular I really didn't hear enough about.

 

Yeah his voice definitely takes some getting used to. I think the first time I gave it a chance that may have been what turned me away at first. But then later I came back and really dug into it and spent more time with and read along with the lyrics. After that I couldnt get enough of it.

 

I heard 300 albums this year and missed all of these? Jeeze.

Should I just prioritize them by how you have them ranked? Grab the top few?

For sure the top 3 listed there I would think you would enjoy based on other stuff you typically like. I would also guess Big Thief, Cody Jinks, Julia Jacklin, and Becky Warren would be right up your alley.

Here lately ive been obsessed with that Alex Cameron record and the one by The Frightnrs so I'll throw those out there too as kind of a wildcard.

 

It's like it was scientifically engineered to be my jam.
