I went against all advice and just got a turntable that 0 people in here recommended me. Sorry team.

 

What did you end up with?

 

would just rather not have a record player than a shitty one - especially one that's gonna fuck up my records

 

I ended up getting the Crosley brief case 3000

 

Honestly, if u end up liking the one you got, who cares what everyone else thinks. I understand why people would steer you away from it, but it's your table and your records, so enjoy it

 

Lol I didn't get a Crosley, I'll post pics of my new set up later! I got a sick deal!

What did you end up going with?

 

So i walk into London Drugs and start looking at turntables, and they actually have a SICK sound / audio section that i really had no idea about. anyway, the manager saw me looking and asked if i needed help. i just asked how long some of the sales were going to be going on for on the turntables. He saw me looking at one that was regular like $500, on sale for $350. i wasnt planning on buying it in that moment or anything, but i got talking to him, told him about my collection and he was like "you know, ill sell it to you for $299 right now". so i bought it haha.

kind of disappointed right now though - i bought a new Receiver and set of speakers off of someone today. i made sure to bring a record with me (they had a turn table set up to it) so i could hear it and make sure that everything was sounding good and in working order. it sounded amazing. i brought American Football 1999 LP, threw it on the platter when i got to the guys house and it sounded really really nice.

i end up buying it off of him, take it home, hook everything up to my new turn table. and now, there seems to be this loud buzz on the Phono channel that was not there before. im super confused. i really dont think this guy was trying to sell me bum gear, he was super cool and wanted to show me how it sounded on hip-hop LPs too haha. even when my LP was on the turn table he was like "hear lets here it on a different song too", and he lifted the arm and put it on a new song. there was never buzz or anything when there was silence. he wasnt hiding anything, he played it at a bunch of different volumes for me.

so now im like obsessing over how to fix this. I do not think it has anything to do with the turn table, because even when my turn table is OFF it will still do it. gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh... any suggestions?!


Edit: holy Frick I think I may have figured it out but I won't know for sure until tomorrow. The RCA cable I'm using doesn't have a third string of wire for the ground. That has got to be the issue. I really hope that's it!

 

Yeah almost positive it's not grounded. Does the buzz go away if you touch any metal part of the table or receiver. Only other thing I could think of is if your table has a preamp built in and it's switched to On and it's already plugged into the Phono input on your receiver. If so, turn it to off if there is the option to do so on the table.

Yup, sounds like a ground issue. I had the same freakout when I first brought my table home. Easy fix. Also, I feel your Canadian purchasing pain :(
