Phew. This thread was a doozy today. Just caught up (okay, skimmed some) on like ten pages or something.

All I feel like saying is love to all the women here on chorus and elsewhere. Can't even begin to imagine what it takes to just deal with this shitty patriarchy on the day-to-day.

 

So yeah, I think I got a 10% on my compiler design exam.

 

I hope Donnie Yen is properly utilized.

I wouldn't want to live in places that get obscene amounts of snow. Living on the west coast, snow still has a bit of magic left in it for me and I don't want that ruined.

 

We don't even get *that* much snow in (southern) Ohio. But I'm still pretty sure I wouldn't be bothered living without it forever haha

Also, in the stories about men being disgusting, when I was in college I had a guy who insisted I was lying about being gay and continued to flirt with me and then the night before Thanksgiving break texted me asking for oral sex and I said no and reminded him of my sexuality and his reply was "I know, that's fine, I don't need to touch you"

I just felt bile in the back of my throat.

 

Added a trigger warning there just to be safe. It was a really messed up situation. He was 6'6" and probably close to 300 pounds, and for anyone who doesn't already know I'm just under 5'1" so it was a very intimidating situation. There was one time he was trying to cut me in line for late night food and the group of guys behind me heard that I was uncomfortable and trying to turn him down without making him angry so they made a big fuss with him and said that was messed up to try and cut because the line was so long and to just go to the end of the line. I got very lucky

 

Weird, my favorite episode is with the Phil and the robots at the science fair

 

At a job I used to work at several years ago, one of the salesmen was an elderly guy in his 60s and he make comments about slipping roofies into his dates' drinks back in the day. I made it known that I didn't like that sort of comments and he was like, why not? it gets their clothes off. I said it again that I don't appreciate those comments and if he made those comments to me again, I would resort to bodily harm.

He got let go several months later because of management reshuffling and his old manager said I was rude to him and when I repeated what he said to me, the manager said, ok, you're right.

 

what. the. fuck. :(

 

Old dudes can get mad creepy about women, just in their demeanor or language. Like no, dude, I don't want to join you in your wolf whistling of women. Don't look over to me for approval of your bad views.

 

Those stories are such an awful combination of sad, disgusting, and scary. Hearing about such extreme acts like that really puts into perspective what exactly frequent misogyny promotes, even when it's just people making gross jokes. I know for a fact I don't have the words to say what I wanna say. Trying to figure out what they are. But ugh it's just so so so sad and scary.

Do any of you folks enjoy "Comedy Bang! Bang!"? It makes me laugh quite a bit.

 

I work in a grocery store, and the worst part is having to deal with all the older men constantly flirting with high school aged girls. Its so gross.

 

I've seen the first 5 or so episodes on Netflix and I really enjoyed it. It's definitely something I enjoy throwing on in bed before I go to sleep.
