Eben is a fantastic bass player but all the old interviews with him he came off as a tool. Sucks he didn't support Chris when he was going through his depression.

Yeah Eben is definitely my all time favorite STD bass player. I believe his thing was that he wanted to go the In Reverie direction while the band wanted the direction they went.

I'll also like to point out my love for the bass line in Don't Go Outside. Freakin Eben...

feel like as a whole package, it's not an illogical follow up to SWYA, but taken individually, the parts are kind of weird. Like, the music sounds to me a lot more technically melodic (I'm by no means an expert, but it sounds like they're doing weirder things), the vocals ARE different, just not as different as I expected when I heard about the reception IR had because of the vocals, and the lyrics are in general toned back in terms of how negative and aggressively self hating they were, but at the end of the day it still sounded/sounds like a Saves the Day album. Is the style not your cup or do you think the style is done badly?

Oh I think I the style is great. Band does powerpop really well. His voice is the only thing that turns me off to it haha. I just really really cannot stand his voice

I will say that I still prefer "Through Being Cool" as a closer, and as much as I love "Firefly," I think "This is Not an Exit" would be a much better finale (although I'm a bit biased, since that's my favorite STD).

I'm very partial to the era when Manny joined followed by Durijah. Sound The Alarm is my favorite album. Under The Boards was cool. I always thought the top notch bass playing was Saves The Day's secret weapon from their first album up until Under The Boards. I like Rodrigo, but the bass I hear on the last couple albums isn't the same. I like all Saves The Day though.

"Your world is what you make it, and I don't want a part of it. Chill out." Is such a good way to end an album lol. I have still been reeling all day with the fact that there is another song.

Sound the Alarm is a perfect angry album to listen to after the election bullshit. I forgot how good this album was.

That album is so rooted in a time and place for me now, I don't think I could hear those songs in the context of my anger at this election (Daisy is what I used for anger, more generalized anxiety for me). That being said, would love a band like Saves the Day to do something in that vein and be angry about this; it doesn't specifically have to be them, but a band that's been around a while, a band with influence and reach in this scene to be explicit about this in a way that lasts more than the time it takes to read a post is a pretty powerful thing, imo.

I don't even think the lyrics relate to it at all, the mood is just there I think. One of the most angry sounding albums I've heard. haha

oh, for sure, I just meant for me personally my associations with that album are attached to a set of experiences in the past, whereas with the albums I did use (Daisy in this case of angry albums) weren't specific to any one experience but soundtracked a lot of anxious moments for me all the same. Today has kind of narrowed the scope of what I want to listen to, hope it passes soon.

....So does anyone know what's the word on a new album? Next year will be a four year gap, just like between Under the Boards and Daybreak. I'm just really curious what Chris Conley has up his sleeve after this long gap. Last time we had Daybreak after a long wait, and I liked it a lot more than the self-titled album. Shit, I'm getting old. ..

think it was said a while back (or a couple pages ago) that Chris said he's gonna write/record a new Saves album after this Two Tongues release. since TT cancelled their tour, maybe the recording schedule for STD9 is gonna be moved forward! think he was aiming for a Spring release, but we know how plans change...

Hopefully it's underway! I've been lurking each member's social media for clues but Rodrigo just got done touring with Into it Over it and Arun keeps posting studio pictures, but that's his gig outside of Saves. Needless to say, can't wait for an update from them!

Daybreak has grown on me a lot since my last post about it. It's not a favorite release for me, but there are quite a few solid tracks throughout it.

Sound the Alarm > Under the Boards > Daybreak = Self-titled > In Reverie >>> Stay What You Are > Through Being Cool >> Can't Slow Down.

I realize I'm probably the only person with this ranking. haha But, I seriously love the last 5 albums, and then can't get into the first 3.

Yes, this band needs to record another album ASAP. I love a few of their records and enjoy the rest. Liked the S/T too, although I thought it was a bit over produced.

I feel very similarly except i would do Daybreak as equal to self titled, iR and SWYA haha

I hope this band bounces back. I really like the trilogy and most of Daybreak, but hated that last album.

Same. It sounded like a watered down generic version of the band. So bland.

I really really want them to up themselves from the self-titled album. I thought it was ok, but just a bit forgettable. Most songs aren't really revisited (exceptions are Supernova and Standing in the Stars). Wish they self-titled a more solid album.

On another negative side note, lately my dude Chris Conley has been disappointing me. The list includes: the self-titled, the meltdown he had (though I feel was a bit justified, still made a sorta negative spectacle ), his non-stop tweets earlier this year that annoyed ppl, Two Tongues 2, and the cancellation of Two Tongues tour.

    ...coming from a die-hard.

I hope he/they bounce back as well. I've seen them somewhere around 10 times and the most recent, last year I think, was really weird. Chris just stood still like a mannequin the whole time. I dig the self titled album, not a favorite, but still very solid

I thought the self titled album ruled, a lot of great songs on there that sound awesome live.
