I've never been on a DATE myself either as in the sense of trying to get to know someone. I have a couple numerous year relationships behind me and iunno.... nothing against em. Perhaps that's my chronic-friend-dater-itis showing, but even the girls who I met and became girlfriends without friends... it was still always a quick "Talking/get to know period" then we're in.

That sounds pretty great though. I fear that I have scared people off because of how comfortable I am talking to strangers about almost anything. I hate the small talk and would rather skip right past it.

I have been on a few dates. I chandler bing it where I eventually pick apart perceived flaws and then talk myself out of liking them

My favorite date experience was years ago and we went to a neat pizza place that had really unique pizza toppings and I accidentally chatted all night with the couple at the next table about pizza instead of my date.

She probably feels differently about that experience.

Yeah same here, really. I guess I just got lucky and met a few girls who were cool with meeting and getting to know the person they're speaking too and not the idea of who/how it 'should be' at that time lol (guys do this too to be fair). Maybe it's being a nice guy paying off and seeing the sincerity, who the fuck knows. My approach is be respectful, sincere, and most of all funny, and hope for the best. But tbh we're literally the same on this lmao.

Dating today just seems so scary to me, idk. And we're just dragging this break up out so fucking long, neither of us have called it officially yet. We're both super afraid of a future without each other. She wants to stay friends but I know that will be way too hard for me, at least at first. Ahh.

the last date I went on was a tinder date to go see Jungle Book. It was cool but we literally never talked again after that.

Yes, it is hard to talk to someone during a movie. Ice cream or coffee are my go-to first dates. Haven't been out for drinks yet, but that's because I don't want to.

Preface this with: more proof my life is a sitcom.

Drop off presents for my niece and nephew and play with them for a bit.

    Me: let's rest, I'm tired
Niece (who's 4 going on 20): you don't do this a lot or what?
Nope: only when rough housing with you monkeys at holidays
    Niece: you don't have kids?
    Me: no
    Niece: are you married?
    Me: no
    Niece: so you're all alone?

*awkward smiles back and forth between her parents and me and them to each other*

Me: yes. But! It's great! It's so quiet and peaceful. You'll understand when you're older.
    Niece: hmm. Sounds awful!

    Little shit.

    Happy holidays!

My honest take is that you should save the open mic for a 2nd or 3rd date

No, not at all. She (the niece) is the most adorable, baffling and freakishly smart and unusually outspoken four year old I've ever met. The way she acts and phrases she knows are disturbing and everyone in our family hates it because it's like dealing with a three foot tall 25 year old, sometimes a 40 year old.

Even physically she makes no sense. Parents are 5' 10"ish height, have no freckles and brown hair (like everyone in our family and her family) and she (the niece) has red hair, super pale, some freckles, and is gonna be 9 feet tall.

I had a first date to a movie once. I didn't want him to know where I lived so I met him there. He was already inside and we were just like hey I'm Erin yada yada.

I like rules. He said let's go get seats and I was like have you already bought the tickets and he said no and that we were sneakIng in. I low key started to panic and he was joking.

No 2nd date. Not to mention it was a 1st date and he was trying to get all pda with me within the 1st 30 minutes of meeting me.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

A conversation starter between myself and the woman I'm seeing was that she had a bloody great bandage on her finger. She'd managed to cut herself while making a spider. It later transpired that the cut was fairly pathetic, but it got us rolling all the same!

I don't think movies are the best idea for date, outside of a date night with your partner.

It's a weird one, because I know I should maybe just leave them in past, but I feel like to must know for sure if there could ever be anything there that is remotely tangible, like a potential relationship. Every time I see her, or think of her I think, what if? I don't want to agonise about this again, and again every time we speak.

I suppose you are right, dating, or any type of emotions that you share for another person will always be awkward, or an up hill struggle.

Thank you, you and many others who have shared your past experiences, and wisdom has helped to calm my nerves.

Movies are not a good early date. However, finally going to a movie with someone and realizing that you talk a compatible amount during movies is a blessing.
