    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

All of Jesse's solo songs are hidden away in the basement to the left.

It'd be a real shame if he stopped releasing music altogether following the end of the band.

Ehh, not like he releases music whilst in Brand New, so I doubt a solo thing is likely.

I highly doubt he'll release any solo music. More likely he would go more into production.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Same they've been doing for the rest of the tour. Good amount of energy though, the crowd seemed really receptive to a lot of it- particularly Tommy Gun. Loved the tautou outro to You Won't Know!

As bad as his reviews are, he has done a positive thing in getting more bands from the scene exposure on a larger scale

I like about half of Ian's reviews I read. However, something I hate about his reviews is how he cannot just talk about the band. Like, in this review, 90% of the paragraphs can't talk about Brand New without trying to mention another band Brand New sounds like, or is drawing influence from, or is trying to mimic, etc etc. I just can't stand it. I know people talk about other bands and stuff in reviews, it just starts to get annoying for me though. Like damn man this is one of the most influential albums of our generation and we really can't talk about, and what it contains without talking about literally every other band.
Also, I feel like I just read a history report. Again, dive into the album more. That was a huge ass review. If you're going to write that much, dive deeper into lyrical themes, reoccurring motifs. There is enough in there that people can record 45 minute podcasts episodes breaking that stuff down. Don't just say "limo is a song that's also about this girl that died and it's basically brand news version of this Radiohead song".
I don't know, he's had some reviews I liked. Foxings 'Dealer' review comes to mind, and his review for Goodness. This was just dumb though. And I agree with the above post. 8.5? On this album? I get that obviously we may be a little biased in our community... But The Devil And God reaches far beyond our community in terms of listeners. This album is huge for alternative rock. It's paved a path for so many things in the past 10 years and we give it a 8.5. The same website is probably giving the last death grips album a 9.5. BS.

also I hate having to get the emo history lesson where we remember the great emo of the late 90s, the crap from the early 2000s and then just keeping saying the word emo over and over again in the review like its some kind of buzzword. Can we not just talk about a great album that came out in 2006 without getting the run down starting from Nothing Feels Good and Somethkng To Write Home About, all the way up to talking about Panic At The Damn Disco.

I think I'm kind of rambling now - it's 3am and I just don't understand that review lol

But honestly when I read a review for albums of this genre and they begin the review with something like: "at the turn of the century, emo music was this and that blah blah blah", that to me is the same crap as if I hand in a university paper and my first sentence says "since the beginning of time..."... It's a huge eye roller, and it's dumb

    1. No way does Ian think this is an 8.5. Pitchfork's editors would have awarded it that score. Goodness was his AOTY yet his Pitchfork review awarded it 8.0.
    2. I feel as though he brings up more hip, pitchfork approved bands in these reviews to try to convince readers, and perhaps himself, these bands are legit.

People trashing Ian Cohen in here are insane. He is a champion of the very music that gets discussed at large on this website. He is basically an undercover emo agent working for the big hip music website. He does everything he can to shine a light on bands from this corner of the musicsphere that never get/got the credit they deserve/deserved. I would imagine if it was up to him this album would be a 10. The fact that it even got a Sunday Review is insane. Huge progress from a website that has snubbed this type of music for so long. Even shocked by th 8.5 tbh.

An 8.5 is about as low of a score as they could give without being completely off base. I'd say they could have given the album anywhere from an 8.0 - 9.5. The 8.5 accomplishes two things--gets people talking and continues establishing this scene's relevance.

It's telling that Ian's review had to throw in references to so many other artists, respected and disrespected alike, to paint the picture of why this album is worthy of the accolades it has garnered. I don't agree with it, but can understand why he may have felt compelled (or been asked) to do it since this scene has largely been maligned and underrepresented since Pitchfork's inception.

With that being said, the CoS article remains the best thing written about TDAG.

This is the first one they've posted. Deja is the only album they've reviewed.
