Bah, Brand New has the worst merch. I guess that's probably a good thing because I'd own way more of it if I liked it.

I've seen this, but for some reason have no memory of Jesse giving Brian money, thats so funny. Also kinda awesome to watch one of my favorite bands talk about my absolute favorite band haha.

They're better than Brand New so you're in for a treat.

I wouldn't personally say they're better obviously as BN are my favourite band, but they're certainly up there and are easily the most successful hard rock band in the UK of the last 5 years or so.

I prefer Brand New but I think you could make a good argument for Biffy being a better band, they've both been about for roughly the same amount of time with Biffy releasing more material, with all of it being consistently great.

The Devil and God is as good as any Biffy album, but Biffy have at least 4 albums (maybe even 5 depending on my mood) better than anything else Brand New have released.

What are the 4 you hold up by Biffy? Because of the change of their sound throughout the years it's a bit hard to guess I hold these the highest of theirs: Infinity, Puzzle, Opposites and Blackened Sky.

The first four I think are all flawless, so equally as good as TDAG. I like Only Revolutions quite a bit too, but it's just a little bit lower for me.

I think Brand New and Biffy have different things that appeal about them- Brand New has the ability to connect lyrically more than just about any other band out there (as far as I'm concerned) whereas Biffy doesn't necessarily (before ellipsis I would say a lot of their lyrics are too abstract and nonsensical for that) but Biffy's music is made to get a lot of crowd energy live and just be incredibly bombastic and fun, whereas Brand New has an abrasive, subdued, experimental mix between their songs which is great to listen to but isn't well suited to a lot of movement in a crowd at a gig. Both great, just different.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Maybe I have blinders because I'm a HUGE fan of Foals and had never heard of Biffy Clyro, but would Foals be a bigger U.K. band than BC? Equivalent?

I would say Biffy are way bigger.

Foals are pretty well known outside of the UK though. I live in Perth, Western Australia, and more people I know would recognise Foals and have no idea about Biffy Clyro, purely due to Triple J play (our only large, 'independent' radio station).

  19. I've been waiting to write this post for a while. I'm doing it out of more frustration than anything else, but: is anyone else just entirely fucking DONE with this band's shit?

Daisy was released Sept 22nd 2009. In the 7 years and 2 months thereafter, Brand New have:

    • Revealed 4 new songs (Mene, Out of Range, I Am a Nightmare & Sealed to Me), 3 of which have been released
    • Released the original set of pre-Devil and God demos that leaked in 2006
    • Reworked 3 of those demos and released them on an EP
    • Not signalled that they are even close to finishing an album
    • Announced a fucking end date for the band
    • Been happy to play broadly similar sets for that entire time span
    • Been more concerned with releasing t-shirts and fucking lyric booklets than actual music
    • Seemingly been consumed by their own sense of self-importance
I'm glad I saw them last year before they started really getting on my nerves. They don't do things that bands are expected to do, and have been dining out on past glories for years now, TDAGARIM anniversary tour aside - regardless of all the other shit, that was going to happen whether they'd released an album in the past 7 years or not.

They don't seem all that concerned with live performances anymore either; again, their song choices for setlists have become lazy as hell. That support set on Biffy Clyro's tour is fucking boring. As good as the TDAG songs are, do we really need to hear SIX OF THEM from an album that is mostly mid-tempo? You have 4 albums, guys, maybe you might act like it and, I don't know, throw in stuff from Deja that doesn't usually get played these days, or even acknowledge Daisy? I didn't see them in Belfast but they sure aren't making any new fans from what I've read.

I used to love Brand New unconditionally, but they've burned their bridges and pissed off a lot of people lately, myself included. I don't understand why they're being so goddamn obtuse about being in this band. And from what I've seen, a good chunk of their fans live for that shit. I don't fucking get it. They're being fucking aggravating for the hell of it and stringing their fans along. A year ago I would have been stoked on getting an album the following year, but now I couldn't care less if I tried.

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

They're human beings with their own lives outside of the band.

Do I want an album? Yes.

Do I demand one? No. They can do what they want to do. They don't owe me a damn thing, and that's the biggest lesson I've learned in the past few years about how I consume/enjoy and enjoy the medium/art.

Good thing it's their choice how they run their band and don't owe you anything.
