I agree, and at the same time, I almost think we're as close as we can get with the show as is and I think I'm okay with what it is: an ad show masquerading as awards. I do think there should be more emphasis on the awards for sure though, I feel like the message of celebrating gaming and then rapid fire reading awards on queue cards between ads feels very disingenuous. I just also think that if it were solely an awards show, with 1-2 musical performances, I'd probably skip it at the end of the day, like do I really want to watch my favorite games lose to Black Myth Wukong for a couple hours? Meanwhile if the show went the route of being an advertising platform it probably would go the way of E3 (maybe not due to the financials, I don't know much about that). I don't know. I'm not disagreeing with you at all, I just really don't know what the solution is to that identity crisis

 

I missed this obviously lol that guy blows and it’s both a giant bummer but also completely expected borderlands 4 looks exactly like every other borderlands game besides the best one, tiny Tina’s wonderlands, that could’ve been a great spin off franchise in its own right. all that out the window for the same fucking borderlands game for the fourth time

 

When we were watching Laura was like "the host has no personality whatsoever" and I agreed but I was also like "well who in gaming does???" Hahaha

 

The real problem to me comes with how exhausting it is to watch front to back with the way it’s set up now. By 9 pm I’m like alright I’m ready for this thing to be over idk how many more announcements I can take

 

Chris Metzen and Todd Howard but even Todd seemed stiff last night

 

Josef Fares, Hideo Kojima, Patrice Desillets, Reggie, Sakurai, Suda, Yoko Taro, Kamiya, ...

Josef Fares is extremely cringe to me lol sorry to say but anytime a dev shouts “no micro transactions no pay to win no bullshit” I roll my eyes, it’s giving “no autotune no drum machines no bullshit”

 

Yoko Taro is nowhere to be found. I'll count him when he appears again, I love the guy and I was hoping for a surprise Yoko Taro drop but oh well. Sakurai kinda makes my eyes roll, idk what it is about him. Felt the same about Fares but he did seem like a cool guy at the core. Kojima and Reggie are cool. Idk the rest by name

I mean that’s what I’m talking about tho some of these people are extremely hard to watch on stage, maybe no personality is the wrong phrasing but it’s evident gaming in general draws in people with no public speaking skills

 

Suda51? No More Heroes? Grasshopper?

 

I’m just saying when the format of your show is inviting droves of these people on stage for three hours to try and sell you on something it gets to be exhausting, especially taken with the bombardment of ads

 

A lot of these guys do give great on camera interviews usually talking about what they’re passionate about and how their game actually works and what it was like to create it, it’s natural some are awkward when either doing a bit as a presenter or having to sell you something when they’d rather nerd out over game systems so I get it but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch lol

 

At the same time though a lot of us are those nerds who want to geek out about it in the first place so I think we'd be more inclined to listen to that in the first place haha. But yeah they'd have to cut down the run time some to make that work and I imagine that if a game isn't hitting for you, that section would be a drag and make the show feel even longer

 

I think Swen did a great job presenting the final award. Sam Lake’s bit was great too. Both came so late in the show I was tapped out by then, however

 

I don’t think an awards show is the time or place for deep dives into the inner workings of video games which is why I miss E3 and blizzcon

 

Yeah stuff like Blizzcon and FFXIV Fanfest just hit right and I feel like we're spoiled by that

Truth be told, I didn't watch the show. Just followed along in here and even then I was too tired to stay up so I didn't find out about Naughty Dog and Okami until this morning.

This is going to sound awful but as much as I love for people in the industry to get recognized for their work, I have little interest in seeing a whole three or some odd hours of it or at all, really. Award shows just bore me, full stop.

It also feels like hollow recognition in a time when so many people are getting canned or shut down.

 

Jealous of everyone who got to see Le Sserafim at Blizzcon, I'm going to end up spending ridiculous amounts of money when they do an actual US tour
