Microsoft has got to be saving fable and the next halo entry for some events later in 2025

Okay so after watching the entire show and thinking on it overnight I have some thoughts. After last year this was certainly a much better show but there’s a fundamental problem at the core of this ceremony that Geoff doesn’t seem interested in solving, and it’s really simple: what is the identity of this show? It’s caught halfway between being an awards show, a celebration of the industry, and an advertising platform for new and upcoming titles. It skews very heavily into the last one which for something called the game awards makes for some extremely awkward pacing as you’re watching the ceremony. It’s like watching the superbowl only for commercials but worse because maybe 20% of the show is actual awards at least the superbowl is still mostly football. There’s also a tone problem, say what you want about the Oscar’s or Grammys or golden globes but those kinds of awards shows actually feel carefully considered and put together in a way that feels consistent with expectations. TGA simply does not. Is this an E3 type event or a ceremonial type event? The need to fill both roles makes for a long, drawn out watch and nothing better exemplifies this than the rushed rattling off of major awards categories juxtaposed with 5 minute trailers with little or no gameplay actually shown. It’d be one thing if the Witcher 4 reveal and the naught dog reveal were the only two big new revelations we got but it was really like one big holy shit moment after the other and I was worn out after the first hour. I get it, you’re gonna get way more eyes on your product showing it off at an event like this, but this is yet another example of the corporations getting in the way of the art form. A night to celebrate and recognize the industries best of the best is wonderful, but that feels completely undercut by every major publisher jumping over each other to try and land the biggest “oh shit” moment for no reason other than to sell a product and maximize profits. Like post Malone being used for marketing material, naughty dogs product placement, etc you’re constantly reminded what this really is every step of the way. People are going to say how great this show was and compared to 2023 sure it was better but I still think it’s just a fundamentally flawed endeavor

Also sad to say but so much of the gaming industries personalities are just completely sauceless. Randy Pritchard exemplifies this more than anybody. Think about his stage appearance and then think about Khalid or even Aaron Paul’s moments up there. Can an awards show like this function when half the industry is compromised of man children with no personality whatsoever?

Popping in here to say I was getting ready for bed last night, brushing my teeth, and scrolled past the Onimusha announcement and dropped my toothbrush on the ground and just sat there staring at my phone like "uuuhhhhhhhh what?!", total loss for words for what felt like a minute.

    I am very very excited.

I started a new playthrough on the ps5 a few months back and my dumbass was considering start fresh yet again on my steam deck after that trailer. What I ought to do is actually play the rest of the Witcher 2 because I made it 10 or so hours in a few years ago and never went back

also it's very weird watching these awards shows knowing I'll be a father come May. I literally don't know if I'll even have time to look at a screen, not to mention sit down to actually play any of these games. So stuff coming out 2026 or later is actually very welcome lol

My older brother had his kid in March and while he’s never been on the same level of gamer as me it’s still one of his hobbies. Anyway he didn’t play anything at all for probably five months but eventually things get easier. He moved his pc set up into his great room with the play pen. However he did tell me he hasn’t watched any tv at all since the baby was born, yet I think he’s read like 25 books this year. Some hobbies will fall to the wayside while you find opportunities to explore others is what it seems to me. After you get over that 5-6 month hump anyway
