I would go bomb a comedy set if someone paid me to do it lol

 

The best/worst thing about standup is that it absolutely does not require you to be funny

 

As someone who recently worked the bar at a comedy club, the most cringe thing that almost every comedian does is like, immediately say something about their bad joke the minute people don’t laugh, like “or not lol wow I suck” or “yall at a comedy show or a funeral?” Like bro it’s already awkward enough we’re all silent after the punchline just go to your next bit, do not revisit a joke that didn’t hit or try to guilt the audience lol

 

I've done a couple open mics and it was fun but no way would I try to make a career out of it.

 

Almost every comic knows you shouldn't do that but they end up doing it anyway because they have no idea what else to do

I think it works for some but not for others (and almost never after complete silence)

 

The sad part is it’s actually a lot easier for someone who’s good at comedy to get paid enough to make it a hustle, than it is for someone who’s good at original music

constantly saw deadbeats who are way lazier than me about their art and not even really that funny actually do comedy as a part time job

 

When we saw Maron at the Comedy Store he told some good jokes and some ones that just got chuckles, and took a second to be like "I wouldn't say you're a GREAT crowd" and that was funny cuz his delivery was on point and because it fits his personality

But if I tried to do that it'd suck

 

gonna do the TBS shows both nights after all. got a ticket for tonight for $25. whoop there it is.

 

Like Justo is a real funny local comedian, and he’s not lazy he’s 100% a pro who understands the business side as well etc… but damn man if I got paid for selling tickets to my shows the way he gets paid for selling tickets to his shows, I could quit my restaurant job lol

 

Comedy is also just lower investment in general so yeah it's easier to make it a net positive than music

 

I am a trainer at work and lead trainings to a big group of people almost daily so by default I do open mic’s for a job

That’s definitely true too you only need cheap sound gear that can be operated by anybody and the incentive to buy drinks from their bar (if you drink) is very built-in so the venue isn’t passing on a lot of overhead.

It's a lot easier for any town to do too, so there's more opportunities vs music venues closing down everywhere

 

bc theyre a good and fun band and put on good shows when they play on long island

Taking back Sunday was bad live the one time I saw them as a teenager and I never tried to see them again lol

Adam Lazzara used to get too drunk to even sing on key and he would still loudly wail the wrong notes and his face would turn all red

I saw a clip of TBS at When We Were Young and the singer was fucked up and sounded just as bad as when I saw them before.
