Yes this. My partner is correct in forcing me to go with her more often and stop eating out but I still hate it and still always spend more than I budgeted for getting distracted by shit while I’m looking for a specific thing

 

I don’t mind grocery shopping

 

There are autistic people out there that don’t find the grocery store stressful as shit and that don’t get in a brain fog the second they step inside?

 

I am autistic and I do not find the grocery store particularly stressful, nor do I get in a brain fog once I step inside

 

I usually go grocery shopping on a week day evening so I’m not going at peak hours or on the weekend or whatever

 

All those fuckin lights and colors, and all the decision paralysis of sifting thru different lbrand names, and it’s a big ass cold warehouse, where you’re expected to just “read context” to find stuff that isn’t explicitly listed by the front of the aisle, even though every grocery store puts different stuff in different places , and you spend twice what you wanted to spend even though you spent a while trying to picked out the best deals in the store, and you forget half the ingredients you went out to get because you somehow forgot to write them down etc

My wife and I plan out our dinners & lunches for the week and go usually on Sunday/Monday and she puts the entire list in order by the aisle so we aren’t dinking around forgetting the pumpkin purée and back tracking like bozo’s

 

Me and my partner both hate it and we go together lately for moral support and to help each other be quick and not get bogged down lol

 

The spectrum is wide and people are affected in different ways. Not suggesting you shouldn’t feel stressed out about the grocery store. I understand why one would be

 

I make a list, stick to it and am shopping for one so it takes me like 15-20 minutes max.

My only flaw with the grocery store is that I am 100% AWFUL at picking the right check out line.

I’ll pick one and it’s either a 14 year old shaking from nerves or the 90 year old lady with the arthritis gloves who asks me too many questions how I want my stuff bagged. And unfortunately by the end she knows my name, my cats name, and prob attended a seance at my childhood home

 

We are proud Instacart+ members. I’ll gladly pay someone else to go grocery shopping if it means I don’t have to drag my kids out into public unnecessarily. Produce is sometimes an issue, but we manage.
