One of the things I love most about Futures is how well the album cover sets the mood and aesthetic for the songs. There's a dark, crisp, cold, autumnal, nighttime feel to those songs, probably none more so than "23." "Jen" doesn't have that feel at all. Having it on this album would be like trying to find a spot for "The Middle" or "Sweetness" or "A Praise Chorus." Those songs are great, but it's a totally different vibe. "Jen" would make infinitely more sense on either of the albums that bookend Futures, but it would detract from what makes Futures a masterpiece.

Just trollin. But I do really like Jen and have absolutely no problem with it on the album before Pain like the advance had. I really don't agree with the not fitting thing, but you do you.

  5. 23 is one of the band's best songs, batshit ridiculous takes being flung around in here.

This is the worst take I've ever seen on this site. Honestly, what?

"disintegration" is a way better song AND a better Cure homage than "23", love the additional percussion (shout out to tony hajjar!!)

Rather than carve up Futures for no reason, I'd suggest expanding Stay on My Side Tonight into a full-length.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Shame is so sick, easily their most underrated b-side

I love shit like this. I once made a Deftones b-sides album before they even did their own, and I love the Fall Out Boy b-sides album I created for myself last year. It's so interesting to see how people arrange tracks that were never designed to be arranged.

I put loosies/b-sides into an album for many artists on Apple Music but the way I organize the songs are pretty much just chronological order

my apparently deranged alternate universe ideal futures LP would have to come packed with a "nothingwrong" / "shame" 7 inch ha. fantastic song that would also make a fantastic closer. imo they produced a roughly equal number of great brooding/more leisurely paced songs and speedier pop songs in this era. their hit:miss ratio around this time was very impressive.

Yeah, I do stuff like this all the time. Usually, I’ll try to keep it to a more specific era like this than just doing broad b-sides mixes, because then I feel like everything fits together more cohesively. Always a fun exercise though!

Can't believe we are coming up on 10 years of Integrity Blues. Still sounds fresh to my ears.

"Touch and taste fades with space, i'll never be who you'll dream" these simple lyrics hit like a brick. Also one of my favorite songs.
