    Heretic was fun

It was cool how they played with formula by having Sister Barnes be final girl coded and the whole time you think Hugh Grant is gonna give a big monologue about how his childhood trauma or whatever is responsible but no he's just a sadist

  2. Hugh Grant was sooo good in Heretic! Being from Utah, that movie (at least the first half) was a lot funnier than it probably was to other people. I thought it was great.

  5. Like @Contender said, a Scream movie cosplaying Scooby Doo on a movie set soundtracked my Incubus? What's not to love

    Heretic was great

The scariest part was Hugh reminded me of like every early 20s philosophy major bro in undergrad that I had to interact with. I'd totally forgotten about them but then when he seemed to love hearing himself talk I was like wait why is this so eerily familiar lol

  7. Random thought I think Melissa Barrera and Ella Purnell would go great together as like, sisters, or in a horror/buddy cop movie, or dare I say, lovers? I haven't seen Sweetpea but from Fallout (and Arcane!) I think Ella can bring the same energy as Melissa in Abigail and Your Monster

Idk how it'd go, but I'd love to see it.

  9. i got Maxxxine for $20 instead of $30 at Target, "repackaged." i asked them what that means and they said since they don't sell movies anymore it was either a return or a shipment they just don't have a display for. probably the latter because there were like five of them there.

tldr Target stopped selling movies but you might still find some that are marked down

Yeah I was in Target a few days ago, didn't see a movie section and got pretty bummed out lol. Don't kill physical media!!!

Overall, I'm pretty meh on Heretic after a few days on it. I was captivated during, but a few things I didn't like..

I felt that there was going to be a less ambiguous and more concrete reason for why Mr Reed was like he was. Some others probably loved it, but I wanted a backstory for his 'religious' studies and a little more background on who he had already preformed the 'tests' on and why
I thought the whole 3rd act was clunky and it was a major personality shift for the sister to have figured out everything that was going on and then speak it in such a calm way. I also don't like that trope in general when handled in that particular way - the lightbulb over the head, and the flashback that shows a prior event in a new light.
I felt the cutaways didn't mesh all that well and I'm not sure it added the tension they were intended to add.

    What I did like:
    - the dialogue
    - the sound design - absolutely top notch with the music, the ticking, footsteps etc.
    - the set design of the house
    - the slow burn 1st act and the beginning of the 2nd act.

Saw the trailer for Y2K when I saw Heretic, and I feel like I'm already disappointed in it because Hell 99 should be on the soundtrack and I assume it isn't

idk the logistics of the transfer and whether it would work, but it would've been nice to see Second Sight offer a region-free UHD (i know their standard Blu-rays are locked to B) for those of us without region-free players.

  21. Not quite horror (more dark comedy/psychological thriller by way of body horror), but A Different Man is incredible and probably my third favorite film of the year after I Saw the TV Glow and The Substance. Saw someone on Letterboxd call it "Substance for boys" and that's actually somewhat accurate lmao
