i remember being so pissed that i missed nearly half Straylight's set at one of the holiday shows because the line to check vaccine cards was INSANE lol

would love to see them do a tour once TBS goes back into offseason mode

I’d love them to do a full tour but I don’t know if they would do a larger scale one. Michelle left initially I think in part because she didn’t want to tour anymore, and one of the reasons they disbanded was because people just stopped buying tickets to their shows and going. John’s talked a lot about that. Obviously it’s different if he and Shaun have TBS to be their main source of income, but I feel like getting them on a fest or two (or opening for the holiday shows next year) might be more likely. If TBS does riot fest, I would like to see them get Straylight there too or something.

The Needles the Space was so far ahead of its time. It deserved way more.

Totally agree, loved everything Straylight put out and would absolutely be down for more music in that style. Some of those Straylight songs are nothing short of the best things he's ever been a part of and were a huge part of my college years.

I would absolutely not expect them to tour, unless it was opening for some other acts from that era, but new music would be dope and a great way to gauge interest. I wonder how well that live vinyl sold a few years ago.

I know I've told this story on here before, but I remember in 2007, when I saw Straylight Run, I was STUNNED how few people were there. In fact, the venue had both a theatre and a ballroom, and I just assumed going to the show that it would be in the theatre and I was shocked that it was in the ballroom and there were maybe 50 people there for a stacked line-up (openers were The Color Fred & Cassino and Deer in the Headlights). Pretty sure they were dropped from their label a few days later.

I saw John and Geoff Rickley do a solo show in 2013 and there were even less people. Honestly, maybe 25 people.

Outside of the initial SR tour in 2005(ish), I don't think SR/JN draw much of a crowd.

Personally, I've never gotten into any of his solo stuff - I find it very bland. But SR will always be one of my favorites.

If SR did a tour in 25, which would be unlikely, it would probably have to be a small east coast/mid-west one in venues capped at like, 300-400 people - and even that would probably be a struggle to fill.

Man, I remember seeing Fred in Birmingham on his first TCF tour and there were also maybe 20 people there - they still put on a killer show, but it had to be pretty depressing for him after walking away from the TBS crowds.

Even when Jim Adkins did his solo tour and came to Bham, there had to be maybe 100 people there, even though Jimmy Eat World pulls huge crowds every time they come through. I guess for whatever reason folks just aren't as into "solo" tours.

About 12-13 years ago, Fred/TCF played a show at a bowling alley in a superb 25 miles outside of Cleveland (which just so happens to be around the corner from where I now live). I didn't go, but I can't imagine there would have been more than 20 people at that show.

    Are You Watching Closely?

Saw them in Norman, Oklahoma on the same tour. They played on a concrete floor in a freezing cold room to less than 50 people. It was awesome for me personally, but probably very deflating for them. Couldnt tell by the show though. Everyone was top notch. I'd seen Straylight in a larger room before though too, I think with Starting Line

I saw John solo on his last string of dates he did for I guess abendigo? Decent turn out in NYC area for that in my opinion. It was a place in Brooklyn but I can’t remember its name off the top of my head. I like seeing his solo shows; he usually does a decent mix of straylight stuff as well, and is pretty open to requests

I hate everything he's done with TBS since his return, but enjoyed all Straylight output. Never thought that would be the case, but here we are.

It's definitely surprising. I once saw Circa Survive, who generally actually got some got audiences, a bit after Blue Sky Noise came out and the venue was half-empty. It was about 450 cap. So very weird.

Sometimes it's just wrong place, wrong time.

Why does this band name sound familiar to me? Hm. Can’t remember if I listened to them, or if I had a friend who did.

They're so good. I've been playing them a lot lately

I actually saw them open for Paramore and JEW coheadlining during Paramore's Riot album cycle. Was so much fun

This is absolutely a factor, especially in bigger markets where there could be huge events going on any day of the week - other concerts, sports events, local festivals or whatever, it happens.

When a certain band with the Devil and God raging inside them played here the same night as Copeland (almost 10 years ago now), that Copeland show had really bad turnout, and not really any fault of their own.

Dear and The Headlights were so good. I unfortunately only discovered them after they’d split.

I can definitely see why a lot of early scene bands have gone all in on 10/20 year anniversary and full album tours. I remember seeing The Early November not long after Imbue came out at a smallish venue and it was maybe a hair over half full of I’m being generous. The next year they played The Room’s Too Cold and it was near sell out at a larger venue. Nostalgia sells.
