Looked it up and the film was announced but not a release date. So if a release date falls in the woods but was never actually announced to the public, is it really delayed?

iirc, the only one that's received a release date has been Mando. aside from that, all other projects have fluctuated in terms of their production timeline (i did see yesterday that Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi might be ready to film next year). but i believe the assumption for a while was that New Jedi Order was the furthest along at the time of announcement, so people expected that would come next.

The original tweet says “heavily rumored release date”, so not sure why that was even a question. Lol

It is a bummer though. I can only imagine we’re in for some shitty writer now like Chris Terrio again. How many issues could there possibly be with a Damon Lindelof script and a Stephen Knight script, that was possibly even based off Lindelof’s?

Wasn’t this movie one of the announcements Chapek forced them to make? What a clusterfuck that dude caused Marvel and Lucasfilm.

This is what I don’t understand. What could they possibly have written that the execs were like “Nah, that’s not going to fly.” Was it too original? Maybe I’m being cynical, but that’s my first thought.

It’s not dumb enough for the majority of the audience that hated TLJ.

Edit: to be more clear, I’m saying the majority of people that hated TLJ are dumb, not everyone or saying the majority hated the movie.

my assumption is that despite box office returns, Lucasfilm would probably avoid bringing Terrio back given the backlash to TROS.

part of me has always wondered what forces cause these films to face delays, rewrites, changing of hands, etc. is it an issue of the film's tone feeling too distinct/not distinct enough? is it adherence to canon? is it fear of alienating their core audience? interference by Filoni? it's probably a combination of multiple factors, but it's definitely not a good luck that this has happened in some capacity with pretty much every project of theirs since TFA and the reception varies wildly between projects.

I was just using Terrio as an example of a terrible writer they just let fly. I don’t think they’d ever actually work with him again. I just think we’ll get some lame replacement now compared to what we could’ve had.

Exactly! Knight being the 2nd to leave is crazy, whoever they bring on next is definitely gonna be under a microscope I feel. And I'm sure we'll eventually read reports on why it took 2+ people to get this odd the ground lol and THAT will make for a good read lol.

I would have been more surprised if anything was actually coming out on that date.

I honestly feel like the most realistic reason these things keep happening is because execs think the script would require too high of a budget or it isn’t similar enough to past successful Star Wars projects.

still haven't forgotten the slew of Disney Investor Day announcements that never came to fruition (save for The Acolyte and Ahsoka)

Yea, I think I might be out on Star Wars for a while after Andor. Save for maybe the next animated series or a more experimental non-canon thing like Visions.

I wouldn’t imagine saying thinking that 10 years ago, but I’ve just kind of lost interest from too much material out there.

Daisy seems to imply there may be a production start date? But also this was recorded before the story dropped yesterday.

i saw her saying in the press like yesterday or two days ago that things are moving along and that she's very aware of the majority of the film's story structure (saying she's filled her husband in on all of it and that it's got more complexities than audiences would initially imagine). so either the script's issues concern the minutiae/elements that build up to big story beats, or her optimism might just be code for the possibility that all they have are story beats, and that there's a lack of consensus about the rest between Lucasfilm and the writer(s).

i desperately want this to be good because from a sociological standpoint the potential concepts surrounding this (i.e. colonialism and exploring the necessity of a religious order like the Jedi in parts of the galaxy that might find them useless) and Dawn of the Jedi (i.e. communal dynamics and social construction/upholding of the sacred/profane dynamic) are highly intriguing. but it's gonna require some consensus and less-meddling if they want to make something engaging.

The source article is paywalled, is there anything in there saying that he left due to creative differences or anything like that? Could it possibly be just a scheduling conflict or something simple like that?
