So many King stories that are ripe for adapting and they choose Carrie. Meh.

Just doesn’t sound necessary and it’s a bummer to me that it will consume Flanagan’s time but that’s obviously his choice.

Had a blast with Smile 2; Naomi Scott was so good and I had no issue with how she came off given everything she had been through — even if some was self-inflicted. I rewatched the first today and liked it much better this go around, but it still had some glaring issues. I had way less issues with this one and thought he cleaned up a lot. As an addict, some of that hit pretty hard along with the traumatic past/anxiety/self-loathing elements. Loved the choreography parts and the music too.

My friend watched Smile this weekend because I watched it and then saw 2. He was decidedly not a fan lol.

He doesnt watch a lot of horror tho, if that makes any difference.

Like her lines about her fucked up brain and wanting the noise out of her head. Fuck. I’ll be thinking about this one a lot actually.

Watched Stake Land for my Gore-us Road Trip pick.

Pretty entertaining, if not a little self-serious, vampire action flick. Kind of seemed like a Walking Dead ripoff, but it looks like they came out around the same time. Was definitely a lot better than I thought it'd be.

Anyone find it kind of odd that stores like Spirit Halloween are promoting kids costumes for characters like Art the clown? I don't have kids so maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but the Terrifier films are not something I think a kid should watch, let alone advertise to. When I was a kid I watched stuff like Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc, but those films are elementary compared to the gore and torture in the Terrifier films.

my partner's advisor was talking about how his 12 year old son and his friends were excited to see it but he knew nothing about it, and it took my partner and several other colleagues to sit his advisor down with the IMDb parent's guide for the film to tell him "please don't let him see this".

I tried watching Terrifier 2 again last night. The first time around, I made it until the bedroom scene; this time, I only made it to the mass shooting. There’s a lot to love about this movie - the surrealism, the practical effects, the visuals - and even Art is pretty mesmerizing, and terrifying, to watch. But I still can’t get past the sheer ugliness of it. Like, there’s a good amount of creativity on display but then they’ll just have Art take out a gun and slaughter everyone with bullets? It just feels mean. I know this has already been discussed to death and I wouldn’t say I hate the movie or anything, but I wish I could like it more because a lot of the right ingredients are there.

But yeah, I think Art is a welcome horror icon in that he’s scary, but I definitely feel weird about his presence in kid friendly spaces. It’s not your classic horror franchise, that’s for sure.

There was some controversy a year or two ago where I live because someone was dressed as Art and walking around holding a spine, and someone on Reddit pleaded that they wait until nighttime when there were fewer kids around, specifically because their own child was horrified. The original poster was torn apart, and mocked by the costume wearer on their IG, but their request was pretty reasonable imho.

sincerely hope certain people in this thread aren’t as childish towards you for positing this opinion as they were to me for saying the same thing because you’re right. I have no desire to see films like that

  21. I posted earlier some guy goes to Spirit Halloween dressed as an Art animatronic to scare people, I think that's fun and fine but I still have no desire to see the actual movies, and kids definitely shouldn't

David Howard Thornton aka Art the Clown has been the one mainly at Spirit Halloween scaring people.

As someone who has been a long time fan of the franchise, I don't think I would show my children until their teenage years. Others can do what they want, but I personally wouldn't.

I naively hope that many of those children haven't seen the movies but know who Art is and just wanna dress up that way. The kids I work with often want to dress up as characters they know "cool" older kids enjoy but they haven't actually seen themselves. Just gonna tell myself it's that lol

This was my first thought. Kinda seems like maybe just a big pop culture reference on the internet to them and not them actually seeing it. My friend’s nephew was obsessed with Michael Myers when he was 3. He’s 6 now and he still has never seen any of those movies. He just saw a character he liked in those dumb kid YouTube videos and it stuck. So I imagine older kids, that are probably on TikTok and stuff now too, just think it’s cool.

Yeah I was at a trunk or treat thing with my kids last weekend around a nearby neighborhood and some young kid was dressed as Art and it definitely gave me pause. The costume alone scared my kids and I hoped that kid was only wearing it because he was culturally aware of it as a thing and just wanted to dress as something currently relevant.
