That is a really nasty injury. Hope he comes back strong, but that has changed many players for good.

 

Would have been nice if the club actually bought a back up or had a younger player who could take on that role. It's been baffling for years why they have not done that. They played the ever living shit out of him the past few years, he's played the most minutes the past two seasons and was third the year before that.

I am ignoring them signing Kelvin Phillips.

 

And Kovacic? Not identical but can 100% do that job.

I would not call him a classic Pep DM though, he is more of a blend of a few different types of midfield roles. His passing ability and the types of passes he plays is different than what Rodri provides.

I get the anger but there is no like for like replacement with Rodri. In the current set up it’s gonna take two people to do what he does. But knowing he’s out for a year will likely let Pep and the coaching staff come up with a new plan to fill that void.
