Some games I have played recently:

Alan Wake: The 6th generation is when video games really tried to become movies. A lot of it is interesting to follow and there is a level of spookiness, but the shooting is repetitive and makes it just like so many other games. Was the shooting always part of the game? Were they trying to tell a story and told that no one would play your game unless you added combat? It can feel scary when you feel overwhelmed, but once you understand how dodging and using the light works, it is just a long chore.

Alan Wake: American Nightmare: When I read that this was even more combat focused than the base game, I sighed. In terms of art style it is very different and worth playing to compare the differences. It becomes even more clearly a video game than the base game, but it does feel better to control.

Life is Strange: They certainly wear their Twin Peaks and Donnie Darko influences on their sleeves. It feels like such a game of that era, reaching for artistic heights that don't always work out. Some of the scenes are just humiliatingly bad, particularly the darker plot about abductions and murderers. The dialogue is so often clearly middle-aged men trying to sound like teenagers. However, in several spots, they find real tenderness. The relationship between Chloe and Max is so much better than everything else in the game, but like Alan Wake, they probably can't sell a game like that so you need an absurd point-and-click fight scene with guns and needles.

Bridge Constructor Portal: The Walking Dead: I was able to access this from the free games Epic gives out each week but I still want a refund. The Portal version of the series was charming enough and fit the gameplay, but this is just a shameless cash grab. A stupid plot that they didn't even bother to record voices for, it is a waste of time.

I guess Sucker Punch did have something. Very excited. :)

also the VA of the protagonist seems to be non-binary so the discourse will be very pleasant. I hope we can focus on the positivity and not repost random chuds in here.

My hot take on Ghost of Tsushima (which I do enjoy playing when I feel like playing that kind of game!) is that I really hate the protagonist, I think his personality is kinda ass and even if that's the point and it's all about the development it just doesn't work for me

That makes me even more excited about Ghost of Yotei

I totally get that. He’s definitely not my favorite part of the game, and I’m way more excited that it’s a different protagonist in the sequel

“It takes all of the linear dungeon crawling and key item-style progression I’ve missed from the older games in this series and perfectly combines them with the ridiculously clever, freeform problem solving that made Tears of the Kingdom so captivating”

This is what I like to hear. I was hoping for a little mix of both old and new and it sounds like this game has that.

I will be checking the reviews on the Metro VR game as I've been itching for a top tier title to dip my toes back into VR and maybe this is it? We'll see. I don't have a PSVR2 but I'd consider getting one for this and then diving into the back catalogue. Half Life Alyx really spoiled me and I just want more games of that quality and length. (If that came to PSVR2 I'd have the headset tomorrow).

Some other cool stuff announced too. I'll finish Ghost one day before the sequel which I'm sure is still a long way off.

I can't believe how much I can't stop thinking about Ghost of Yotei. I didn't have a GOT sequel on my mind at all. Didn't think it was something I'd care to want. But it looks so cool already lmao

My thought was: “oh look, another open world AC clone!” It does look nice but suffers from a lot of the same tropes most open world/sandbox games fall into. That being said, I’ll try it out again.

It feels more fluid and fun to fight in than a lot of AC games or clones which I do enjoy, and keeps me engaged despite the repetition in some of the open world tasks. That's really what saved GoT for me (plus it's very beautiful)

I am over that style of game in general though so I get ya
