I’m assuming they mean a date at a very large venue

If I remember correctly the leaks said it was gonna be at the Rose Bowl. I hope so because the sound at SoFi is shit

Leak said Rose Bowl, but I read an article a couple weeks back that said it might be SoFi instead. I’d have to find the article

Generally curious how markets with multiple venues that do the same thing (in this case 2 of the biggest stadiums that do concerts).

I’m sure there’s some web of competing/overlapping interests, but I’m not sure who would be the people to insist on the old Rose Bowl with the brand new SoFi right there (merits of each venue aside) other than the bands/management themselves

Probably has to due with venue fee and logistics as I don’t think Live Nation or AEG own the buildings. I don’t live in the LA-area though, does one have more prestige over the other?

John // OC now, OH forever.

Between the two, SoFi seems to be the destination for stadium shows. Acts that have played Rose Bowl previously (Beyoncé, notably) have booked their recent shows at SoFi instead; Rose Bowl is mainly festivals.

I went to the Rose Bowl in 2017 for Metallica. My memory is a little hazy but I think I remember it being only bleacher seating. So not only was it very uncomfortable but you also had to deal with drunk bros manspreading and taking up more real estate than one seat

I like Sofi a lot more than Rose Bowl. The giant screen that wraps around in the air in the middle of the venue is so cool

So I went to Metalfest yesterday and I didn’t think it was a shit show? Few things that happened that sucked. First off it rained all day, literally never stopped. So this was the first year they didn’t do re entry. The neighborhood has changed a lot in the palladium’s time and I think they don’t want people hanging out in the neighborhood all day.

they have the upstairs as a second stage inside the palladium. I’d say this year the bands inside were bigger than in years passed. Plus the rain so you have 4K ticket holders trying to see bands in a 250 person room. They cap the room off, but no one can move in there anyway. They do need to think about it they are gonna have a second stage then they need to have it downstairs, so everyone can see the bands.

only other real issue was the overkill thing. For those that don’t know on one of the main stages the last three bands were Killswitch, Machine Head and Overkill. KSE had their back line set up, then Machine Heads drum riser in front of that. Then Overkill had their drum riser set up too. Now it’s one of those big outdoor portable stages with three drum sets. So all the bands on that stage had like maybe 2-3ft at the front. Brandon from Bleeding Through started their set by calling them out. Saying they were asked not to set it up, but they said they wouldn’t play and now every band is gonna be late setting up because they have two feet to get their gear off and the next band get it on. He says big festivals like this everyone make sacrifices for everyone else. Check your ego at the door, seeing bands play with rock star attitudes despite how it affects everyone else. He was like Overkill sucks and if they have a problem they can come find me. Red Chord and After The Burial took shots at them too during their set. Overkill also took they time, and went over time. They were cut off, but it caused Nails to start late and cut their last two songs. So Machine Head, Converge, and Killswitch could all play and get their sets in before the outdoor noise curfew.

some unfortunate aspects but wouldn’t say the day sucked at all

Bands were great but the weather and crowd were awful. Saw multiple fights throughout the day. Also couldn’t get in with my empty collapsible water bottle

Fights you say? Someone mixed east coast hardcore kids with metal heads and let a racist group headline and you’re telling me people got into fights?? I’m shocked

speaking of which, singer of Corpse Pile said on stage today. “Im probably gonna get shit for saying this but it needs to be said. Shame on this festival for booking a transphobic nazi piece of shit like Alex terrible. This fest has such a rich history of community and bringing people together and he just isn’t what this fest has ever been about”
