this movie is: Cronenberg meets The Picture of Dorian Gray meets The Elephant Man

that final 20 mins had me giggling like a fucking idiot in my theater

Oh yea the entire third act my jaw was hanging open. I was laughing like I was going insane

This ruled. Moore and Qualley were on fire.

also I wonder if they took any tips for that third act from Gwar

This kicked a ton of ass. Was holding back laughter during the last half hour because everyone else in the theater was silent with their mouths agape.

Kind of like Severance by way of Cronenberg.

  5. This fucking ruled. I… don’t even know where to begin

I will say I was sadly sandwhiched between 2 groups that wouldn't shut the fuck up during this that I had to try my best to not let ruin my experience.

to my right I had an old couple that gasped audibly at everything and constantly had to comment "oh she's gonna fuck her up. Oh no she's done it now. Karma!"

And the. To my left an obnoxious couple that felt the need to be on their phones, conversing throughout and above all else BAREFOOT.

  7. YES. I honestly can’t tell if it’s a bug or feature with how easy it is to overlook these themes under all of the comedic beats and grotesque visuals. When the two start fighting, the theater went into uproar. Watching Sue kick Elisabeth clear across the room was an obvious laugh. But then they move to the bathroom and Elisabeth smashes her head on the sink. Then the mirror face bashing… to Sue just straight up kicking Elisabeth to death in the floor. Some people still laughing and it’s like brother??? There is nothing funny about the acidic self hatred occurring on screen right now. It is so, so sad to watch

  8. That said I could not get over the billboard that just points directly into her apartment lmao - that got me many times throughout. Especially when it just says NEW SHOW. The Late Night show is also just called The Show

Sorry I know I’m posting a lot in a row here but I also have to wonder how much Severance influenced this movie. The idea here is veeery similar on its surface

She made a short film years ago that has a lot of similar ideas in it.

Demi Moore at some points reminded me of Larry David.

Is this super gorey / a lot of body horror?

It gets pretty gnarly. Not so much gore until the last act but it definitely gets there.

Will spoiler tag this but there are scenes that involve all of the following that had people loudly groaning or looking away, in case you’re curious about anything somewhat specific

Long needles, skin sewing, infection/pus, fingernail ripping, teeth pulling, unappetizing food, belly button digging/protrusion, bone snapping, face bashing

It was agonizing. Half way through the movie I stood up and went to sit in the handicap row and couldn't hear them as much which was nice but man it was irritating.

  18. This ruled and our crowd seemed to have a good time with it.

Knew about the Cronenberg influence but didn’t expect so much Lynch as well, which I’m always on board with.

This was so fun, an older couple walked out when things started popping off in the last 30 minutes, but everyone else was having a blast

HOLY FUCK! Masterpiece. This year’s Pearl for me.

Obviously I cannot relate to the parts about being a woman and Hollywood’s/society’s beauty standards, but the aging, addiction, body dysmorphia, procedures, medicine, chronic illness, existential crisis, ableism, etc. elements hit like a ton of bricks.

Incredible direction, performances (Dennis Quaid being a MAGA POS probably “helps,” but he’s so good), cinematography, score, sound / production design, editing. Best film of the year I’ve seen so far .. and it’s not close (Challengers was my top spot before this). I liked Longlegs, Maxxxine, Romulus, Cuckoo, but I can’t lie and say I wasn’t also disappointed and expected more, especially with such incredible trailers. This lived up to the trailer and hype and that felt nice.

Favorite part has to be the lady on the date behind me that said “I don’t like this movie” and walked out with 20 min left.

    run away with me Platinum

Dennis Quaid doing this when he's a trump supporter with a wife half his age is hilarious

I love that Elisabeth was always wearing a Coraline coat

Also the substance needed a youtube tutorial

It’s hilarious that you can see him in this and then go to another theater and see him play Ronald Reagan. Two ghouls in one day!

This ripped. I haven’t had that much fun with a new movie in theaters since maybe “Barbarian.” Demi Moore was great and I was never big on Margaret Qualley, but she killed it here. Wow!
