Good point. Silly me for thinking that lying about being in cahoots with RUSSIA, especially after they were hacking us, would be a "yuge" deal. He could probably go full Frank Underwood and get away with it at this point.

you didn't make me feel bad. you pissed me off because here we are, once again, trying to console someone who's too sad that their method failed and can't understand what motivates people to take to the streets to organize.

"why are all these black people in the streets? desegregation failed in the votes. what's their end game?" come on. don't feel fucking bad for yourself. thats embarrassing and counterproductive, especially when you start to blame people who are in the streets for not doing enough in your mind to ensure that he lost. Do something, anything. if your participation ended on 11/8 then you fucked up.

I'm suppose to see BN/Front Bottoms/MoBo tonight and I have, like, zero desire to do so now. I haven't even really been listening to music since -- hard to find joy in or be excited about much right now.

Doesn't most of the intelligence and military apparatus remain unchanged?

That was the knock on Obama, no. He got in there with plans to change, but was dealing with the same people Bush was, so nothing changed?

    Sanders on Trump

    Wednesday, November 9, 2016

BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov. 9 – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement Wednesday after Donald Trump was elected president of the United States:

“Donald Trump tapped into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media. People are tired of working longer hours for lower wages, of seeing decent paying jobs go to China and other low-wage countries, of billionaires not paying any federal income taxes and of not being able to afford a college education for their kids - all while the very rich become much richer.

“To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him. To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.”

    1. There's little evidence that ObamaCare is causing employer provided insurance costs to rise much. There will be SOME raises in the costs that are due to enhanced protections for hte consumers, i.e. being able to keep your children on your insurance until they're 26, coverage amounts not being capped at a certain price, etc...but for the most part, the ACA left employer provided insurance alone. Employers get charged for insurance based on the "Risk pool" of their employees. I.e. how old and sick their employees are. For super large employers this usually means a healthier risk pool and thus lower per-person insurance costs. For small employers, well...imagine you own a business with 40 employees, and two of your older employees get cancer. They are going to cost the insurance company A LOT of money, and prices on the other 38 employees will rise in turn. The ACA has tried to give small employers a way out of this by giving them a small business insurance market and thus spreading out the risk--i.e. that business with 40 employees is on the same market with another business that has 105 employees and if they both get their insurance from the market, the risk pool is now spread out among 145 employees instead of just 40 or just 105. All this is a long way of saying that it's usually a gross oversimplification that the ACA is the reason for cost increases, especially in employer provided insurance, where costs have been increasing dramatically for years for employers.

    2. If you like provisions like 26 year olds can be on parents insurance, insurance companies can no longer deny people with pre-existing conditions, they can't cap coverage at certain amount of dollars every year and/or lifetime of the person, etc. then you need the individual mandate. You can't have all of those things without healthy people also getting insurance to help pay for them. This is why many people on the left (including me) are disappointed in the law as it was passed--this idea is a conservative/republican idea for health care. Instead of passing a public option that would cover everyone no matte what, the law was built more around the "personal responsibility" principal of paying for your own insurance if you can afford to do so. This is also meant to address the "Free rider" problem of people who would get sick without insurance, and then not be able to pay their hospital bills. The mandate makes everyone but the poorest pay at least a little bit into the system. To stick with your "is it fair" approach, is it fair to make the taxpayers pick up the unpaid hospital bills of people who declare bankruptcy due to their medical bills? Or, likewise, is it fair to allow insurance companies to deny people with pre-existing conditions coverage? If your answer to the first one is no and the second one is yes, than you like the ACA a lot more than you realize you do.

    3. The problem with "freedom of choice" is sometimes those choices effect others around you. At the very base of this problem, uninsured people who get sick and can't pay their bills end up putting the burden on the taxpayer. There are two ways to solve this: enact a payroll tax-funded public option so that everyone is putting into the system and everyone is benefiting from it....or, you enact an 'individual mandate' that is meant to boost "personal responsibility" and get rid of the "Free riders" who get the benefits of the system without paying into it.
