I wouldn’t characterize my reaction to what you’re saying as “taking offense” (that’s an oddly 2015 Republican Twitter deflection). I’m just trying to make sense of anything you’re saying. If you don’t want to try and discuss how you square being 100% against genocide with fawning Epic Lib posting on behalf of the people doing the genocide, you don’t have to. You quoted me, so avoiding conversations is easy.

Care to explain how posting what I post is PRO genocide?

Everyone has stated multiple times you posting “omg Kamala is so cute with the coconut tree thing and how girl boss was she when she almost called Trump a motherfucker” or whatever doesn’t jive with “I’m 100% opposed to genocide.”

Basically what the thread at large is saying is vote for her or don’t, but the “omg how cool are the dems” is at the very least not giving a fuck they’re supporting a genocide or at worse actively supporting it.

 

Me: I hate the Red Sox and refuse to watch/support/care about them because they got rid of Xander and Mookie

Also Me: I still check their scores every night and would prefer them to win vs losing.

Any normal person would put 2 and 2 together and conclude, “he’s really still a Red Sox fan, he’s just performative as fuck.”

(I’m actually a Padres fan now go fathers!)

Actually, the majority of my posts aren't even praising Kamala or her stances or views.....they're usually making fun of Trump and/or Vance. Clips of their rallies, or them in TV spewing their BS. Or other crazy GOP shenanigans. Actually I think I've posted more clips of Walz talking than Kamala. I think most of the posts pertaining to Kamala herself were when the debate and DNC happened, like when she was on screen.

Are you saying “yay genocide”? No. What you’re engaged in is best exemplified by the “Hitler made the trains run on time” bit. It means that some things - such as genocide - are so destructive and such an affront to humanity that any promotion of the person, people or groups that perpetuate them diminishes the seriousness of the crimes they’re guilty of. In this case, the systematic ethnic cleansing of an indigenous people.

You can vote for Kamala Harris out of a desire to stop Trump, who you justifiably feel would be worse than Harris in a number of areas. A lot of people in this thread - including people who I think are good people and who are not engaged in genocide apologia - are doing the same thing. However, they also understand and acknowledge that Kamala Harris/Joe Biden/the Democrats are engaged in the literal same category of death and human misery that we associate with the worst tragedies in history. That this is heading in the direction of becoming something we will look back on and remember as similarly tragic to the Holocaust, the extermination of Native Americans, the slave trade, etc. Because the Republicans will not be better on this issue, and because they may be even worse domestically, a lot of people will vote for Kamala. But the ones who are adequately mindful of the gravity of what is happening in Palestine are not actively celebrating Kamala because she truly does not deserve to be celebrated while she and Biden are acting as an entire ethnic group’s Hitlers.

So in short, I don’t think you are actively rooting for Palestinians to die, or that you are “pro-genocide.” I take you at your word when you say you feel stopping Trump is that crucial of an issue. And for what it’s worth, that is obviously a justifiable position. I’m also not saying that you’re a bad person if you vote for Harris (although I’d encourage you to find ways to support Palestine outside of electoral politics, if you are not already). But, as Americans we are so isolated from the direct consequences of our country’s imperial record that it becomes easy to go from opposing the worst elements of our political system to actively rooting for and celebrating the also historically catastophic lesser evil. Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Donald Trump and JD Vance would all be in The Hague or worse if it was up to me. The fact that the only people with an opportunity to win the election, and that the only parties that will hold power, are actively genocidal makes them inherently not like you and me, and we should oppose and hold both equally accountable every chance we get.

The same way I could not imagine saying nice things about Hitler, why would I say nice things about other people actively engaged in the behavior we rightly consider the epitome of evil?

(fun fact, Hitler did not actually make the trains run on time)

I mean she's out there attacking other people/dems, so I expect people to respond to her in kind. And as ineffectual as she has proven, and how much of a grifter she seems to come off as IMO, I think it's deserved. It doesn't just have to be about her possibly being a spoiler haha. It's not like folks like AOC don't spend the large majority of their time attacking Republicans and instead focus all their attention on the Greens or anything like that.
