There were plenty of metal acts back on Warped Tour that got their shine back in the day when I went from 05-08 - I remember seeing bands like TDEP, Every Time I Die, The Human Abstract. Plus all of the nonmetal stuff I was into like Fake Problems, The Swellers, etc. Good times were had.

If Kevin Lyman has any involvement with this iteration of Warped after what went down with the general predatory culture there and after the multiple debacles and general tone deafness he had when responding to his critics, it's a non-starter for me as a consumer - plus it's going to be a $250 plus cash grab ala We Were Young Fest with nostalgic branding that I just can't justify with my personal financial and life situation that I'm not going to bore you with.

Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I'm getting kinda tired of shit like emo nights and Furnace Fest trying to capture the nostalgia for millenials from shit we were into during our teens. I'm generally more stoked about people trying to create new and interesting things like Love Tiger Connection Fest in RVA or some of the hardcore fests like Sound and Fury or FYA if I'm even going to go to a more expensive event. It's probably just a preference of scale, but I had more fun at the DIY show with Mammoth Grinder and Genocide Pact I went to last week in Richmond than any of the larger shows I've been to post pandemic.

    Thanks for the info

That's kind of a bummer that they see bringing it back as some kind of financial failure, i've grown fond of When we were young even if Warped tour was always my favorite festival.

There’s a logistical reason! For a lot of big production tours, there are two separate trucking production crews. So the crew from Atlanta will go straight to Miami and the crew in Boston will go to NYC so they have more lead time. And since Dua Lipa is most likely flying between shows anyway, it’s easier.

Just a hunch since I know a lot of big scale tours operate this way.

I know the buzz for Warped Tour is going to be huge, but im surprised if or that Livenation thinks theyll always have as much hype as the first year as When we were young or the first Warped tour coming back, the fact that When we were young is still selling out the first day should still be seen as a success especially since Sick new world is only one day and sells out about the same

    I hope it's in California.

2025 version of Warped sounds exactly like what WWWY has been the last two years lol

Yeah the intrigue of Warped Tour as a big festival is definitely lessened by the fact that WWWY was basically what Warped tour for millennials was. I don’t see them doing any better of a job building a lineup that will sell crazy.

Yeah they got a lot of money out of me for the album plays concept… don’t know how instant day 1 sellout and I’m sure still strong day 2 sales can be considered a failure. The sales they’re missing out on are probably just the super casuals who are more interested in emo cosplay and instagram likes

I doubt it’ll be a better lineup but if it means an east coast date then I don’t care

I dont need them to top when we were young, the only way is if they put the best bands of the first two When we were young lineups and have Warped tour two consecutive days in one city with different bands playing both days like they did in 2019.

  20. The price tag will be what sells me on it or not. WWWY was exciting because there were reunions and stuff. Warped 2025 will probably just be 90% the same bands we’ve all seen a million times.

WWWY fest is a destination genre festival that for some god forsaken reason only sells 1-day tickets for ~$400. If there's a reason sales are lagging, that's probably why.

A single-day ticket to Lolla, Bonnaroo, Boston Calling, etc. all cost around $150-$200, which typically have bigger headliners.

Of course the undercard lineup for WWWY is much more dense with popular bands, which is probably why they think they can justify making it so expensive. But on the other hand that makes it a much more risky investment because if you put too many big bands on one day there are gonna be hella conflicts.

I think if WWWY wants to have a sustainable audience that wants to return each year, they need to either bring down ticket prices or split the lineup across multiple days.

It costs more for me to go to WWWY than Coachella, and I saw 30+ sets per weekend this year there. Probably only going to WWWY this one time. (Would have went the first year if my day weren’t cancelled)

I'm going to be real Warped Tours selling point for a lot of people was it being a traveling festival that they could go to for $50 or less. Idk how well brand alone is going to sell the people excited about the rumors when they have to figure out how to get $200+ tickets (probably for multiple people), airfare, and hotel.

I use to think that Warped maybe wouldn't have oversaturated their own market and lead to ending if they just took gap years (just do the festival once every 2-4 years, because you could pretty much guess 80-90 percent of the lineup by looking at 2 years priors lineup), but with the rising cost of touring I don't really see anyway it could be financially viable. And again idk if the brand is going to be enough to separate it out from the pack of the many other destination festivals.

I feel like Warped Tour 2019 prepared us to what's to come, I do see it being more expensive and I do see a lot of backlash coming because of the cost.

Yeah if it's stands that tickets are more than $200, I think there will be severe backlash that they're cashing in on something that was beloved for its affordability.
