Kind of weird to get a 311 album around Halloween since they're a quintessential summer band, but I'm not complaining.

HEY and finally, 311 gets a dedicated album thread on here, let's gooooooo!!!!

 

Also - seeing them in a few weeks at Oceans Calling. Saw them this summer on the Unity Tour as per usual, was a fantastic set at Merriweather.

Cool that the single will be released before Oceans Calling so will probably get to hear that one live!

 

Only slightly disappointed to see 10 songs on their first album in 5+ years, but I'll take what I can get. I'm excited to have new 311 in my life again lol.

 

On the 311 Nation group on FB (which actually screengrabbed @Penlab 's Original post above!) - someone is confirming that there also b-sides . We shall see!

Here for it! Voyager had some good highs to it, in my book.

 

Pnut had (accidentally) said at one point in an interview that there would be 14 or so songs. Then he quickly backtracked and realized he shouldn't have said that (clearly wasn't final) and said "Don't quote me on that". So I would imagine there are going to be a few more floating around lol.

 

Anyone want to do some 311 album rankings?

 

This is my general ranking...but I sort of split them up within tiers and they pretty much shuffle around within those groups at any given time.

I'd have to listen to everything again because it's been a long time, but I think I like Evolver a lot more than most people. That would be in my top tier along with Transistor, Grassroots and 311. Soundsystem, From Chaos in second tier and then Don't Tread on Me and Music after that, but I don't remember Music all that much, to be honest.

I've probably only listened to the rest one time each, so can't really say where they would land in the grand scheme.

 

I really haven't spent enough time with their discography to rank, but I will say that Soundsystem through Evolver is a great trio of albums.

 

I think it's more sort of like an "eras" thing for me.

Five 90s albums = their prime
From Chaos and Evolver = still great but the start of the decline
DTOM through Universal Pulse = career low
Stereolithic through Voyager = career renaissance

I'm a huge fan though so I'm still generally a fan of everything they've done, b-sides and all.

 

I feel like From Chaos was a nice summary of everything they had done up until them so I include that as part of their imperial period. Evolver/DTOM was the start of them streamlining and everything since then has seemed to be to have an excuse to tour.

Right now I’d probably swap Soundsystem and Transistor at the top. Soundsystem is just a perfect summer record. Ran it back a lot this year.

My Uplifter ranking is also based on the deluxe version with all bsides included . As I also went deeper on in the main 311 thread - I could’ve sequenced a better tracklist that would probably make more people be kinder to that album.

I really just love this band so much. I got my 30th anniversary Grassroots vinyl earlier this week , going to spin that a bunch this weekend!

 

I think that's a pretty popular opinion too. FC could definitely be included in their prime.

Uplifter I think would definitely be up a little higher for me if it included Sun Come Through, Get Down, and How Long Has It Been instead of a few others on the main album! The other few b-sides aren't bad either albeit a little corny. haha.
