It's hard to believe years ago that democrats would pick right up where Bush left off with our foreign policy and defense spending

Bush's presidency is still to blame for fucking everything

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I live in Michigan, and the support for Trump was staggering to see. Lots of yard signs throughout. Lots of people spewing hate speech. I know that there was a decent amount that refused to vote for Clinton after everything that happened with Bernie. I'm just sorry my state let everyone down.

I'm not sure in what state your in where the lowest priced plan was only $500 month, but that doesn't sound right. The average price for plans across all the states and all the plans is usually in the 250-350 range, which would put $500 in the upper range of plans. In any case though, that price is again due to some of the factors I outlined earlier--more comprehensive care, guarentees of coverage for certain things, no yearly or lifetime caps on insurance, etc. They exempted people from paying the mandate if they couldn't find a plan that was less than 8-10% of their income specifically to shield that group of people just outside of the subsidy coverage salary range from getting punished for their low income.....but long story short, they needed to move to a public option to protect those people more.

I mean, I definitely have sympathy for your g/f, but I don't know what else could have been done to inform her. State govs don't really have a lot of resources to identify everyone who's eligible for medicaid and go out and find them, and the ACA and subsequent efforts in years after that actually did put extra funding into finding people and getting them signed up. Otherwise, that's something could have/should have been figured out just by going to healthcare.gov or your state's exchange and putting in the info and income and getting the "your income qualifies you for medicaid" and what not.

And if her income was low enough to be qualifying for Medicaid that entire time, then there's no way she should have been paying a penality. She'd be exempt through either the income tax filing exemption or the fact that no care in her state was available for more than 8-10% of her income, which no plan would be if she qualifies for Medicaid haha, because she wouldn't qualify for subsidies. But I do believe you have to mark that on your taxes that your income exempts you from the penalty.

Not well; I've just been staring off into space all day and alternating between feeling like crying and throwing up. Not looking forward to going home to my family tonight, who all voted for Trump.

Its my evening to help out at my local cat rescue though, so at least I get to cuddle with 10-12 cats for a few hours today.

She lost people that were once Bernie voters and former Obama voters. They were likely moderates. They've been radicalized or whatever you'd like to call it in a way. I stand by the statement that the center has collapsed. The racial appeal isn't sufficient to explain away this shift and wholesale rejection of many things that were bipartisan and moderately liberal. So, if your question is, how can the radical left win them over, we have to build it. That's all. There's no good answer, it is just work.

ColoradoCare, which would have established a universal healthcare in Colorado, was voted down 80% to 20%. I don't know the details about this system so I cannot say if that was a good decision or not.

Right about now, that document I made 7 or 8 months ago w/ @Anna Acosta and @Spencer Control should probably be added to the code of conduct/forum rules. @Jason Tate i'm ready to help when you are.

I wasn't advocating for death. But you used the word racism. I responded to say why that's incorrect.

How do you fix gerrymandering, and over-representation in the electoral college? Can it even be done? It certainly won't happen in the next four years. The GOP will continue to manipulate districts and suppress turnout. Is there a legitimate argument for the electoral college? (I'm actually asking) Because we have all been fucked over twice in the last several elections.
