I think the tweet is more about how white folks could avoid racism by unfriending or avoiding facebook where as POC cannot because that's life. At least that's what I think.

We can complain all we want, but Trump is in an absolute cannot lose situation. Whenever the poorest of the poor in our country get even worse, it will still be Obama's fault. It will always be Obama's fault. I will go out
Exactly. I wish them luck. I love the Facebook posts I'm seeing where someone writes in two to three sentences exactly how it's going to be fixed and great for everyone. And that's just it: Many Trump voters are actually deluded enough to think it's going to be some super simple thing that just about anyone can just "fix and make great".

It's hard to beleive that so many who voted for Obama voted for Trump. I can't make any sense of that.

That's exactly how he would respond in the debates. He was asked about how he was going to prevent jobs from leaving the US. He said "Don't let them leave." Three times.

Question from a Canadian that doesn't know a whole lot about how your government works:

What is the process for the president making decisions? Surely he can't just completely roll out his own agenda can he? What exactly could he do, specifically, to some of these minority's being mentioned? Like isn't there a check and balance or nah?

Genuine question because as a foreigner I do not know how that stuff works in your country

It's just mind boggling that so many people in this country don't care. But the silver lining is that you have to hope that if he doesn't delivery on said claims which he likely won't, that some people will wake the fuck up and think next time.

Yeah, the only ones likely to see a cheaper benefit will be people actually working with a medical plan in their benefits package. The far right Trumpers will go back to not getting any plan because the out of pocket costs from the pre-existing conditions will be too great. They will then continue to say it's too expensive and what about us. It will be like the days pre-Obamacare when we had all of the news stories and articles on prescription costs. It's sort of feels like having DSL back in the day and choosing to go back to dial up. Yeah, DSL wasn't perfect, but it was better than what we had.

  12. There will be a faction that says: well we just didn't nominate a liberal enough candidate, the public wants these ideas! They will run in 2020 and get beat. With this rust belt move, and populism of Trump ... I think they'll lose the EV in a similar fashion.

Quoting to save for later. Thank you.

To David's point. I am one of the people you are talking about who have never organized and are looking to do so. I have no idea what to expect. But I'm guessing voter education and registration and GOTV. Community involvement, going to and participating in community meetings, organization events, door knocking, handing out info, etc. stuff that I should have been doing from the beginning. But again. I have no idea what to expect but I'm committed to doing whatever wherever needed.

You're envisioning a future where trumps policies actually work. They won't. Trump will fail the American people and they'll turn on him.

I guess I still believe in what Howard Zinn said regarding the office-holders being irrelevant, if we begin to empower ourselves and our movements. It is hard, it is work and I'm not so naive as to think that it won't require working with democrats, but the point of empowerment and movements, in my mind, is to take over those positions they occupy.

  17. I heard that about Bush. He won reelection anyway.

Yea, I think the best thing we can hope for in the coming years is that life is absolutely dreadful for whites in the Rust Belt.

Edit: And elsewhere. I don't want to excuse myself or the people around me.

Trump will be even worse than Bush though. In my opinion. I'm not saying 2020 will be a blowout but I don't know how you can already call it when we know Trump will be a disaster

I have a friend who is a black woman, she lives in Staten Island yes but... she voted for Obama both of his terms and seems to have very liberal views most of the time. She claims she HAD to vote for trump because of healthcare and how it'll get much better for "working class people like her". ugh.

I am not a fatalist. This was avoidable. That said, what are the odds that Trump will have more than one term? I expect that, if implemented, his policies will have the same effect as Brexit did on the U.K. Economy and we're already overdue for a recession.

I obviously don't know you personally, but reading your posts here, I think Trump and the whole system will fail you. A lot of folks are going to be ok with it. It's not just Trump. It's the conservative Congress and Senate, and soon to be conservative SCOTUS members. That's the real kick in the dick. Trump will have a strong voice in the other branches on his side. A large group of Americans wanted this reality, and it's scary.
