I know a community organizer in my area (Kalamazoo, MI) and am currently making plans with a friend of mine to meet with her and discuss practical ways we can begin to mobilize. This is brand new territory for me, I have no idea what this means for me or what I'm doing, but I desperately want to learn, will not sit and wait around for four years. I can't be idle while people are oppressed, marginalized, spit upon by the Republican machine, and I'm embarrassed that it took me until now to make this commitment. Fuck that. It's time for action.

Thank you to the people in this thread who have actively called for direct involvement. It has inspired and motivated me to go do the work and walk the walk. I've been lurking in this thread for months and am so impressed, humbled, and truly inspired by so many of you.

Yea I just bought my healthcare for next year.. I donated a kidney two years ago so having healthcare is really important to me, I'm VERY nervous as to what will happen and if I'll be able to afford healthcare premiums if I have to go out and get them on my own. I don't get any tax credit for healthcare but the fact that plans exist still helps me, I absolutely think it could be better but I think it could have been improved from within rather than tearing the whole system down and starting over

Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

Most Trump supporters I saw in Cleveland (politically labeled blue) were mostly hanging on to a couple things. One was Hillary. They didn't trust her, and in a lot of cases harked back on the emails and Benghazi. The other thing I saw brought up a lot during the election was that they wanted conservative supreme court justices elected, even though they don't like Trump. Most of the time they would call him an asshole or questionable. The demo on most of these people were minimum college grads earning decent to really well. They are from the surrounding suburbs in good school districts. Some grew up Republican and are staying the course, but most are pretty moderate. Some young, some older. Good amount white, but definitely not all of them. It was fairly quiet in the early part of the election, but as Hillary clearly looked better in the debates the steam really started picking up. Lots of signs were popping up and the overall message was getting more prevalent as it got closer. I was reading places here and elsewhere to get a another perspective, but I was always quite nervous and didn't want to be the "negative" guy in a thread here. I wasn't sure how serious it would have been taken regardless.

I was originally going to vote third party, but when I started seeing the momentum for Trump in Cleveland I began re-thinking my choice and opted for Hillary. I knew I owed it to myself and others to make a vote that had more of an impact. I really did not want a completely right wing system, and now we have it. That scares me as a white male myself. I can't imagine how minority groups are feeling at this time. Trump is about to be one of the more powerful presidents to take over because of this setup. Here's hoping Trump abandons some of his pitch and comes to the middle more. I do think Obamacare is gone, whether they go with the 60% majority or go around it. I think filibusters from the Dems are going to be rather useless as well. Their best approach is probably to buddy up with some Republicans and start doing a give and take approach, which means conceding certain things as well. Man, this is a tough day.

my health law professor (jacqueline fox) seemed to have some hope (though she said herself it was maybe a 5% chance) that there would be a majority of the house that, while repealing the ACA, would understand the chaos that it would inflict on so many and would (for moral reasons) honor a lot of preexisting contracts. who knows man

I really wish the huge politicians would more brutally speak their feelings on Trump. None of that "let's put our differences aside" bullshit. Call out the fascist.

I am 100% against Trump and genuinely fearful, but I'm okay with 'Obamacare' being repealed or at least a DRASTIC overhaul.

The fact that we punish people who are too broke to afford the health care by fining them during tax season is disgusting. My girlfriend makes 9 an hour, she simply cannot afford it. Luckily qualified for Medicaid, but I kind of thought that's what the point of the affordable Care act..
