Took the time to write a statement “years after” realizing she shouldn’t have supported him but still follows him on Instagram.

Did the church’s PR person write that for her too? Lol. Pretty sure they have people who do that in that shit

Sounds like she denies supporting Danny after one hearing but doesn't sent being a scientologist

Oddly enough, @scientologykansascity follows her on IG. Not really damning, but they follow both her and her band Dead Sara.

Just to be very clear: even a statement like that is something that is going to anger the Church of Scientology.

No, they absolutely would not condone any statement that implied Danny is guilty of rape, which is what she clearly does in that statement without saying the exact words.

Even though he got convicted and can’t do anything for him?

i think that regardless of intent, this is just gonna feel like empty words to a number of people. the ideal scenario for a lot of people would be that she denounces Scientology, but given threats to her safety and nearly 40 years of indoctrination, that's not gonna happen. i guess it's a really really small step in the right direction that she denounces and wants to distance herself from Masterson? but the impact of her alleged actions during the trial and what happened beforehand (particularly re: victim intimidation) will still be felt for years to come, and no amount of "i don't support violence against women" blanket statements will fix that. i'm wondering how off-putting this will be going forward with this album cycle, whether she'll welcome questions in interviews to try to clean up her reputation or if the buck will stop here and that this will be the only thing she says (it'll probably be).

Yeah. There's not a lot to go on but there was a report last year that the church still considered him innocent despite "expelling" him after the sentencing.

I feel like it’s important to note that Danny Masterson’s pre-trial hearing (the ones that Emily Armstrong attended) wasn’t exactly a long time ago; preliminary hearings were in May of 2021 and the pre-trial hearings began in August of 2021 after the plaintiffs were all found to be credible witnesses, that Scientology urges members to not report crimes to the police, and that there was enough evidence to go to trial.

EDIT - my dates are off. It was Sept 2020.

    This isn't correct.

The hearing she attended was Masterson's originally scheduled arraignment in September 2020, which would end up being delayed and rescheduled multiple times into 2021.

But it was just that original one in 2020 that she attended.

Totally willing to be wrong here; I was going off of his Wiki that said he was charged in June 2020 but didn’t plead until January 2021 and trial was later that year. I hadn’t seen which one she’d been present for.

Yeah, I think it was delayed like four times into late January 2021.

Read Danny Masterson’s ‘demurrer’ he’s hoping will get his criminal charges dismissed | The Underground Bunker

This is the article that put her at a hearing, which was the original September 2020 one. (And her statement tonight says she was only at one hearing.)

Cedric’s wife has posted on her IG story a video of someone saying he got confirmed today that Emily’s parents are in charge of PR and all litigations within the church so… I just wouldn’t be shocked if they wrote that for her

  17. I have zero interest in defending an abusive cult or rape apologist, I would however say that monitoring someones Instagram follows may not always be the best metric as there are a number of factors that come into play re: how much of her own social media does she do, did she simply forget about him if she's following a lot of people, etc. I'm assuming he hasn't posted in quite a while and I usually forget that I even follow someone if the algorithm isn't putting them directly in front of me.

A further explanation is needed to really see (if she will or won’t admit to being a Scientologist) if she still shares their views of being anti-meds/mental health, harassing people that leave the church, etc. I think she should at least be able to say that even if she’s trying to avoid condemning the church.

I’d also like to know what LP knew. I cannot imagine they would create an entire album cycle roadmap with an already-recorded album, multiple interviews with huge outlets, a booked tour and livestream concert if they knew they were potentially going to be running into a controversy with the Church of Scientology. Or maybe they were that ignorant or naive.

It just feels like such an unforced error.

  21. I want to agree with you, but it's hard for me to imagine they didn't know that she was at the very least an active member of the Church, which has its own baggage even before we unpack the Masters on stuff.
