I was listening to the Lonely Island podcast and they mentioned how their philosophy was always that the higher the quality of the music, the funnier the bit becomes.

I just had sex was a legit jam that I think got some radio play when it came out iirc, and was getting played at some parties at the time. Song was catchy as fuck lol.

Oh and I DEF screamed along to I’m on a boat at both parties and bars, even years after it came out. The T-Pain verse at the end of that is extremely screamable lol

Enjoyed the Hudsucker Proxy a lot more than I expected, since it’s never one of the Coens that anyone talks about. I love that the Coens made three whole movies in a row that are ostensibly early 20th century period pieces but exist in a surreal, nonsensical Looney Tunes version of reality

Yea those Lonely Island songs are actually good too in my eyes. Jack Sparrow is also a great one.

A big part of it was also that you had less expectation of an audience having access to every episode at all times. A lot of shows built an audience over time. The fourth season of the Sopranos was their biggest debut, and Breaking Bad was getting more popular with every season. The three-act structure had to work for not just a series but a season and even an episode.

The 12 or 13 episode HBO drama was the peak. It allowed the season and the episode to breathe and move at a proper pace. 22-24 episode dramas are not nearly as renowned, but something like the first season of Friday Night Lights doesn't feel long because they used that time to explore different ideas and characters.

yeah agreed that 12-13 episode season seemed like the sweet spot. Walking Dead’s 16 episode seasons were always okay too, it was usually the writing choices that made it suffer

the mcu netflix shows were all 12 episodes and they felt way too long. maybe bc those shows sucked lol but after years of 8-10 it feels hard to go back

my bigger issue is with shows doing over an hour episodes. it started in the mad men/breaking bad era but game of thrones doing 90 minute episodes ruined everything

I don’t think this is at all true for The Wire, it didn’t have “A” plots that were resolved each episode, that just isn’t at all how the narrative was structured.

I've only been able to get through two episodes of the new season of House of the Dragon. They're so long and so slow moving

Saw a preview screening of the Aubrey Plaza movie “My Old Ass.” Fantastic coming-of-age movie. Thought the male lead was really good. Was wondering what else he was in. It’s Percy Hynes White from “Wednesday” (Never watched) and his Wikipedia shows he has allegations. Was a Linkin Park-like whiplash.
