The brief time I spent in Chicago I thought to myself I would absolutely not own a car if I lived there. This was summer though, so I imagine in winter I'd change my tune lol

I walk about 4-5 miles a day most days a week, so i get my music listening/vibing/meditating time in then. Although i have almost been hit by cars twice lol but i definitely get enjoying driving around for that. Tbh i like going for long drives a lot. I just would love to save the money of cutting down to one car for me and my wife.

I’ve got friends who make it work without them. And I’ve got friends who really don’t drive except for in the dead of winter. I get it lol

Dont usually share Hasan stuff, but I felt like this was a good argument against Harris/Dems adopting Republican talking points on the border and immigration to counter the folks who say they have to do this.

I hate that if I want to live a car free lifestyle there are like 5 places where that's possible lol

Since moving to the SF bay area six years ago, I ditched owning a car. It's inconvenient at times, but most everything I need is within walking distance or public transportation. I uber for the rare times where those don't work (taking cat to vet, etc.).

I've never had a good experience owning a car so I'm hesitant to ever again, but won't say never as I have no clue where I'll live in the future. Seattle is my hope (with Chicago a potential backup) in a year or two, depending if I can ever succeed in my job search. Shouldn't need a car there, but not completely saying no to one either.

Would be some older SUV -- something cheap. With all the other vehicles out there, I don't feel comfortable being so low to the ground in cars anymore.

I had the compact early 2000s Toyota Tacoma in high school and it was my favorite car I’ve ever had. Being able to haul things came in handy often and it wasn’t 15 feet off the ground and 3 cars wide. I tried driving a friend’s giant truck recently and I couldn’t see anything shorter than 4 feet over the hood.

Literally the inspiration for Roger Rabbit lol
They were going to build an electric rail system and the car companies destroyed it

I went down a rabbit hole (heh) when we got back from Chicago looking up the origins of Denver's public transportation. Long story short, in the late 60's-70's when they were planning it out, they actually wanted to model it after Chicago because we still had a bunch of old trolley tracks running through neighborhoods but NIMBY's said absolutely not so now we're stuck with lines that just run adjacent to the highway and it's a fucking disaster unless you want to get to one specific spot downtown

It was really easy to live in Philly without a car but I did prefer when I had one for trips to the suburbs which I did a lot and worked out there for a while but I found a job in the city when I didn’t have a car and it was fine. Not having a car in St. Louis is a miserable experience and made me feel trapped and isolated

Not anywhere near close to needing a "new" car but I think whenever I am in the market I am going to look at the Ford Maverick AWD Hybrid. One of the smallest trucks you can get and I want something easier to lug around kayaks or bikes.
