That was the date i was at as well. We saw Neck Deep so many times around then, they seemed to be local support on so many shows/tours.

 

What a setlist.

 

was thinking about how TWY barely ever does support tours when I was watching them at sad summer. seems like actively no one showed up to watch them there, and their merch tent was so quiet and empty. I think their fans are so used to seeing them headline that not a lot of them wanted to pay more money to see them play a shorter set.
allegedly they were actually supposed to be direct support for a Pierce The Veil summer tour, which got canned when PTV got offered the slot to open the blink 182 tour. then they had to pick between direct support of the All Time Low tour (which Soupy canned because that band is ((cancelled)) and Sad Summer. Sad Summer it was.

 

Not surprised they wouldn’t draw a ton of people to Sad Summer. They did two headliners last year and a lot of people saw them on both tours. No need to spend money to see them play a 45-50 min set. I’d also argue that a lot of their fans aren’t necessarily into The Maine, Mayday or WTK. That being said I don’t think ATL or PTV would have done much for them due to the lack of crossover in fanbases. I for one am extremely happy to see them with The Menzingers over any of those bands.

Also I think people are overreacting about Neck Deep. It’s a UK tour and makes total sense for TWY to support them over there.

 

Funny that those were the two tours they got offered when the last big support tour they did in the US (aside from the first Sad Summer) was ADTR/PTV/ATL in 2013.

 

the last 2 albums have just been "ok" and they have played A LOT of shows the last like 5-6 years, even with covid. I've seen them 8 times without even really trying.

bros need to take some time away and recharge and write some bangers.

 

Hum just being okay is a wild take, IMO. Think it's easily their best.

But agree they have toured pretty non-stop for a while now. Personally love it and I'll never get tired of seeing them but the lack of sad summer draw for them wasn't totally surprising.

 

Yeah this band hasn't missed once (my opinions on the mix and master of a couple albums notwithstanding). Don't know how you could not like Hum if you like their earlier material.

 

Hum was at the very least their best album in nine years after a four year gap between albums. Saying they need to recharge is a bit odd.

Yeah, they almost lost me with No Closer to Heaven and Sister Cities, but Hum brought me back and they absolutely feel "recharged" or whatever

 

YOTV came on shuffle last night in the car and after not listening to it for a few weeks, I once again was in disbelief with how hard they went on that song

 

Yeah Neck Deep are bad. I've always thought they sound like a pastiche or tribute.

 

TWY have also headlined a few of those venues in the last couple of years, so it feels weird to see them in a support role so soon from that?

Obviously they're not promoting an album so don't have the same momentum, but I would like to think they could still headline and sell well at all those venues.

But whatever, hopefully it's a blast and they get more eyes on them from Neck Deep fans who for whatever reason haven't heard them before.

 

In Birmingham at least, this venue is a decent step up. They headlined the 800 cap Academy 2 about a year ago, but the main room is more like 3000.

 

I may be talking absolute rubbish then haha. And actually, looking at the size of Shephard's Bush, which I believe has been their biggest London show? Thats only a 2k cap venue, so maybe this will be their biggest UK audience.

Yeah, i was at that show too (beginning to think I see them too often), and having not been to Shepherds Bush Empire in about 7 years I was surprised how small it was compared to my memory lol.

I would hazard a guess that their biggest non-festival show here is probably supporting Enter Shikari in some small arenas about 8 years ago, that would be about 7/8k I guess. Otherwise, they got several thousand at Slam Dunk in 22(?) when they did Suburbia and TGG in full.

 

Talking about Ally Pally, I definitely watched The Wonder Years support Shikari there on that very tour (with Arcane Roots, which is quite an eclectic line up), so again I'm talking absolute nonsense.

Missed that Slam Dunk, but that setlist must have been so good

I agree with this. I thought the sad summer line up was garbage and I don’t like the other bands mentioned, so I just figured I’d be able to see them play a headline set soon enough and skipped SS all together.

 

Hum is very easily my favorite TWY record

 

Hum is at minimum top 3.

 

Sounds like a band on autopilot retreating into safety after successfully branching out on the previous album

I really struggle to see how you could listen to an album with Songs About Death and You're The Reason and call it "retreating into safety"
