I think in general it really comes down to the simple fact that the Dems don’t care if I vote for them or if I vote for another party. They don’t want to do the things they’d need to do to earn my vote, their attitude is one of good riddance or sad attempts at shaming. Voting for a third party that poses no threat to them feels ineffectual. They have a base of people who want - in large part - different things than I do. Namely, their donors.

Now, starting a new party? I’m open to that!

I still wear masks every time I go out. I have a chronic illness that would almost certainly be exacerbated by getting covid. I've gone to a few family gatherings maskless, but that's about as risky as I'm willing to get.

Maybe someone can explain this to me as I see it, but Hamas wants war. They baited Israel into exactly what they wanted. They care more about the destruction of Israel than the protection of their people. The second a ceasefire is enacted, they'll take the time to rebuild weaponry and plan more attacks.

I am against sending one single cent to Israel, I can't believe the horrors I've witnessed and the disregard for life in the Judaism that I was raised in believed every innocent life is a miracle that needs to be treasured and protected, but to act like "well if israel just stops" well then what? Hamas simply radicalizes and attacks again.

I think for this reason it makes the average american simply not know how to feel, and feel powerless and not responsible. There are no reasonable actors here. Screaming genocide doesn't alleviate the fact that Hamas is a bad faith actor.

Im about to be watching something, so I can’t get as in depth as I’d like to, but Hamas exists in large part because of the US and because of Israel. Also, “getting baited” i think is an oversimplification - I don’t think you or I, who cannot imagine living in an open-air prison, are truly in positions to judge the resistance of the people who are in said open-air prisons. I don’t say that to say that Hamas is “good” (I mean, they are insofar as if you want to talk about lesser evil, they’re the lesser evil comparwd the US/Israel), but i don’t think we can put responsibility on Hamas in the same way that it can be put on countries that have a military, have money, have institutional global support, etc etc

Would we criticize Native American groups that killed settlers in the 1800s in the midst of that genocide?

I get that, but just what would be the constructive solution that both sides would find acceptable? Surely Israelis are not just going to leave, that's not plausible. So say there's a ceasefire, what stops the cycle?

How about Israel stops oppressing Palestinians and killing them each and every year and taking Palestinian hostages every year? People aren’t militarizing in Gaza for no reason, they’re fighting against an oppressor who wants them eradicated.
When Israel stops then what is good question but the assumption shouldn’t jump to what’s stopping the Palestinians from attacking again. What’s stopping Israel from continuing their oppression? What’s stopping Palestine from becoming free? A lot more needs to be done to help the people in Gaza and to obtain a free Palestine.

I mean yes Hamas would probably attack again in the future but Israel would basically do little mini acts of violence weekly or daily really. Especially in the West Bank where they’re just literally taking peoples homes from them and moving Israelies in.

Israel needs to agree to stop the settlements, roll back the last certain amount of years of settlements, recognize Palestine as its own country, and allow UN policing of the holy places in Jersusalem. Then maybe if they do all that and just leave Palestinians the hell alone otherwise, maybe the radicals won’t attack anymore. And if they do, now theres room for a lot more sympathy for Israel. As it is now, no one has much sympathy for them as a nation because of what they’ve been doing over there for decades now. Like there’s too much info and people who pay attention to these issues m are too well read on it now to just fall for the “well Hamas did a terrorist stack on October 7th”. Well yeah of course they did, Israel has been escalating rather quickly over the last 5-6 years especially with the settlements.

Israel won’t give Palestinians equal rights. They won’t let them have control over or free access to water or electricity. They won’t let them have control over borders. They won’t let Palestinians have access to medical supplies. Their unreasonableness goes way beyond not leaving. That is a bad faith place to start from in the first place.
