Agreed it is actually very cool and based to feel strongly about an issue.

    reminder: the issue is genocide.

I think there'd probably be a lot less frustration or talking down, if it didn't feel like a certain percentage of the thread were constantly saying something along the lines of "Kamala will be better on this issue than Joe or Trump" because demonstrably that is just not true and is the exact same behavior that we all dunk on the MAGA faithful for.

I'm all for people not voting for whatever reason they want to. That's their right. And, straight-up? The situation in Israel/Palestine is inarguably the most valid reason I can think of... That's not where my head is at currently for a myriad of reasons that I would struggle to articulate in a succinct manner.

But man, saying it's not a valid issue for people to base a go/no-go decision on is really fucked. Especially since all people are asking for is an honest acknowledgement that they'll actually try to stop this shit. And TBH, if that were to happen I would feel much better about things in general.

    This shit is anxiety-inducing.

I’m actually a two issue voter: Palestine and fentanyl and she’s horrible on both

I personally have felt a lot of frustration seeing portions of the thread discuss a literal, actual, never again nevermind genocide with the same level of gravitas as a tax rebate that didn't poll well.

Like two weeks ago I was saying I had softened on Kamala because she might be better for drug addicts and the next day I saw a clip where she said fentanyl is coming in through the border. Puke. Pure fascism.

I am asking this from the most genuine place, because I don't know and I largely don't trust sources on the internet - where is it coming from? Or, conversely, what is a more helpful stance?

Same as trump: the border is to blame for the influx of fentanyl to the country. which is not only not true but also a sure fire way to brutalize immigrants and give addicts zero support

It's like people believe if they make her president then they'll finally see the "real Kamala" as if she's been held back this whole time. We already know who she is, she's a standard-issue Democrat foot soldier.

it’s coming through legal points of entry which I’ve already said and there is already enough drugs IN the country to supply the streets for decades. A more helpful stance would be funding for evidence based treatment programs and housing opportunities that aren’t conditional in the way they are now. I mean if you expect an addict to be clean before assisting them in housing they’ll never get clean, kicking on the street isn’t possible trust me. I could go on for hours about what needs to happen but that’s a bare minimum. Instead of any of that she’s turned it into a border issue. It’s giving fascism. It’s giving Philippines

But illicit fentanyl is coming through the southern border. This does get conflated with it being brought here by immigrants, which is not true. It comes through legal ports of entry by US citizens.

I didn't see the specific clip you're referencing, so I don't know which claim she was making or if she just didn't make that important and necessary distinction.

Nah she was saying it in the context of the border bill the GOP shut down. Legal points of entry is very different from the border issue being discussed

But it’s also coming in through coastal ports too and you can literally make shit in a basement even if China stops supply the precursors. Shutting down the border doesn’t stop the supply of drugs. Some manufacturers are moving on from fentanyl analogues to nitazenes go google that if you wanna see where this is headed.

I make the comparison because trump has praised duterte and Kamala is using the same points trump is. I mean what I said

But again as I pointed out earlier as someone who has been through the entire process of getting addicted to drugs and going as far as you can possibly go without dying not a single thing that ever happened to me was because of the border issue. It was because of a doctor in 2010 giving me Vicodin for a wisdom teeth removal. I took all 20 pills in two days and exhibited insanely addictive behavior for years that I didn’t fully understand until I couldn’t stand the cravings and started using heroin. 80% of people I’ve met had situations very similar to mine or worse. The fuck does the border have to do with any of that

I've followed a bit of your journey on here, but haven't known really the whole picture. You make such a good point, and I'm glad you're here.
