Yeah, there doesn't have to be one reason why this bombed. It was a team effort.

    just one of those ghosts

It just sucks cause it doesn't feel like it really bombed in the traditional sense. It basically got sabotaged by one portion of the fan base reviewing it unfairly while the other portion gave it a chance. And in my opinion, it really delivered by the end.

I’m sure he knew (or at least had an idea) that it was being canceled before it was announced. Still, I don’t think anyone shit on him personally and his scenes were well received. He’ll be fine.

It’s also rumored that Marvel wants him for Iron Fist.

Definitely feels like Lucasfilm is pivoting away from D+ shows.

    Yup
    Mando S4 + Movie
    Ahsoka S2
    Andor S2 (final season)
    Animated series

We’ll see how Skeleton Crew does but maybe S2 of that. Outside of those, seems like movies will be where investment goes

i was about to comment that it feels less like a complete pivot and moreso a honing in on stories that are cheaper to make and (unfortunately) cater to the largest crowd possible, which we all know might eventually bite them in the ass. however, i'm going over the series they have on the docket in my head, and i think you're right. we've got 4 different movies confirmed to be in development, with several others rumored to be in development.

what else do we have on the TV front now? second seasons of Andor and Ahsoka, a potential continuation of the Tales shows/a new animated project, Young Jedi Adventures, and Skeleton Crew. Andor is ending, a third season of Ahsoka isn't guaranteed, Skeleton Crew might be set up to fail since it's geared towards kids, and unless the new animated show is an ongoing thing, we really only have animated anthology or young children's shows. there are probably more in development, but not far enough along to talk about.

Do we even have confirmation of Mando season 4? I’m so lost as to what they’re doing there outside of the movie.

Same with Marvel. D+ shows tend to be more of a blessing than a curse because these studios don’t know how to manage them.

I’d say 90% of these shows exist to just to boost D+ subscriptions instead of an actual TV producer coming to Disney with an idea.

idk, Lucasfilm seems to be shooting themselves in the foot here. on one hand, they're too scared to take on original projects so they double down on tried and true stories. then folks complain that they're not unique enough but they don't want to alienate fans (especially after the creative disconnect between the ST films) so they exhibit greater control over the story than the writers intended, leading them to perceived both toxic and legitimate criticism as a sign that original ideas don't work. when they encounter failure in one medium, they pivot to another. but is that really gonna solve their longstanding issues re: creative control or will they repeat the same mistakes on a different scale and budget?

they'll never please their toxic fans unless they fire their executives, adapt their favorite novels as shot-for-shot remakes, and whitewash the cast and pack it with more men than women. but we all know that's not gonna lead to good storytelling, so are they really worth catering to? but when those fans are pissed about Lucasfilm's decisions, they suddenly don't feel confident in protecting creatives against vitriol or telling them off because they still want their money?

i don't fall into the "fire Kennedy, fire Filoni" camp, but i really am curious what their plan is going forward to prevent this from happening every 5 years. when they play it safe, they play it too safe. when they take risks, they set them up for failure. what's the best way to remedy this?

on one hand, Favreau has said he'd like to keep making the show for years to come. on the other hand, middling reception to S3 and the strikes causes them to retool S4 into the film as a safe way to get audiences back in the theaters and litmus test any future seasons. who knows?

I know Marvel is going through their own issues but it’s so painfully clear Star Wars needs a Feige like figure at the top understanding how this all works with each other.

I think in the structure they have it’s Kennedy. Idk how broad of oversight they’ve given Filoni

i meant in terms of the creative side of things as he has creative oversight over all projects now save for Andor. business-wise, it's definitely Kennedy. maybe tag-teaming it isn't the best idea?

    House of Protect Ron.

Slide this story out of my head canon. I am bummed they presented Plagueis at all if there is no follow up. I read all the novels and look forward to getting more back story. As far as I understand it Dave got the new role guiding all new stories way after this was rolling. I am hopeful for the next 5 years of stories. Also I am happy Ahsoka is still happening and we will see those threads completed.

They should just use the source material to make a sprawling multi POV High Republic show HBO style. That book series is probably my favorite Star Wars storytelling since Disney bought Star Wars. Let the creators cook!
