Bad players sometimes have good games and good players sometimes have bad games and also the ratings are never what I bring up. A lot of the people at the company themselves don't even like them.

oh yeah that's fair. People really do put stock into that number because it is a number though. Or they'll take an advanced stat and treat it like it's only saying one thing and not consider the various other reasons why that advanced stat could be that number. Such as average yards of separation, or contested catch rate etc which are highly situational and scheme-variant.

 

You’d never catch me awarding a player points and participation trophies for breathing on a quarterback as opposed to just getting a sack

 

What about the times where an IDL basically sacked the QB for you, blocking his exit path by throwing one of his linemen in the way, and all the DE had to do was run at the guy though. Sometimes the sack is the participation trophy.

@CarpetElf I'll tell you what I do like is PFF articles, because they tend to say stuff like "his 3.73 KDFFGT might be indicative of ____ on some teams, but this roster has this player covering a lot of ground on a regular basis" and will spin the stats in a way that shows you can't always take them at face value, and you can't always categorize player stats by position. Because some of those things are not comparable from team to team as different teams lean on different parts of their roster in different ways.
