Had Night 1 of the M72 tour in Chicago last night. Setlist was sick: Metallica Setlist at Soldier Field, Chicago

Can’t wait for Night 2 tomorrow!

I think I'd lose my mind if I saw "Blackened" and "Orion" live. That rules

 

Night 2 was mayyyyybe better. Just a spectacular weekend.

The Chicago shows were so cool but I have to share the highlight of the entire weekend...

My wife and I sat beside a dad and his kid, who looked to be about 10-12. On Night 1 the boy looked bewildered and nervous about everything around him; drunks, loud hooting and hollering, folks lighting up cigs and joints, the loudness and spectacle of the show. Last night (Night 2), Metallica was 3 songs in and when we looked over the kid was giving his dad the BIGGEST hug and immediately started rocking out and singing along. I feel like we watched this kid take in his first concert and then felt comfortable the second night to just take it in and have a ball with his dad and his favorite band.

On the off-topic/personal side, we don't want kids but love being aunt and uncle to amazing sib-kin. We were brought to tears seeing that moment as we hoped it would be a formative memory for the kid and his dad. It brought me back to my first concert (the KISS Psycho Circus arena show) that my dad took me to when I was 10. THE POWER OF LIVE MUSIC, PEOPLE!

 

I saved up and got myself a Boss pedal kit this week.

Looked online and found some pre-amp and EQ presets for tones like Master of Puppets and Sandman.

I have always liked Metallica, but never really played along to their music, and I’ve played guitar for 25 years. Just cranked the gain on my amp and played whatever pop punk songs I was into. Never, ever invested in pedals or anything else before this week.

Holy shit guys, these are SO much fun to play. I must have spent 90 minutes last night just riffing.

 

It’s a slippery slope. Neural DSP plugins have taken way too much of my money/time once I found them!

 

might make me bust out the old Schecter and play Creeping Death
