When Gaslight covered "Left of the Dial" by The Replacements in 2009, that was cool to hear.

 

Holy shit that Pitiful cover though, and I don't even know that song haha

 

Weezer doing an 18-song set with 12 albums of material under their belt while dedicating 40% of the set to covers is my sweet spot.

 

Cannot express how excited I would be to finally hear Bring It On live, and how quickly that excitement would be cancelled out by hearing an RHCP cover immediately after.

 

I get why bands would want to mix in covers, and obviously they can play whatever the hell they want to play, but as someone who doesn't go to many concerts at all and it's usually a big deal for me when I do, if I am going to see someone play I want to see their songs live

 

Damn that cover woulda been awesome

 

First time seeing them in 10+ years tonight and their set got cut short 5 songs in due to lightening. Gutted to not hear Bring It On or any of the new songs. At least Joyce put on a great set. Hopefully they come back soon

Also them playing Bring It On for 6-8 straight shows is so great and Brian actually seems to be happy playing it too

 

Okay I’m 100% in for a Nirvana cover

 

I was too surprised to even have an opinion. Esp as an opener. It was well rehearsed and fine but just strange.

 

tbh you have to respect his commitment to injecting as much 90s alt rock into Gaslight shows as possible... would have been inconceivable at one point

 

now that’s wild

 

Honestly respect it - especially as a set opener.

Butch Walker came on stage in Nashville to do The 59 Sound. Venue sound was a little weird so it was hard to hear Brian, but the band sounded solid, and setlist hit spots I hadn’t heard from them myself. Hoping the DC setlist is a little different to cover the ground I thought was missing, but what we got was great.

 

Tried to untangle my complicated feelings about Get Hurt, which included coming up with an alternate tracklist that I like way, way more than what the band actually released.

Great article, Craig, one of your best. I'm a Get Hurt apologist but I found myself agreeing with so much of what you said.

Your alternate tracklist is good too, I personally would keep Helter Skeleton and instead dump Ain't That A Shame, and maybe add Mama's Boys, but overall mostly agree. Have Mercy is a classic.

Not to get ahead of ourselves but the new album is almost a year old, have they talked at all about LP7 or if that's even in the cards? I really hope so.

This has been my #1 favorite band since about 2009 and I'm so glad they're back.
