I was looking at the LA28 venue plan, and I guess to save costs Softball and Canoeing are going to be in OKC instead of LA @JoshIsMediocre you going?

My frisbee loving self really wishes we could have some frisbee discipline in the Olympics. Disc golf would rule but US is in another league compared to the rest of the world. Seems like Ultimate should get a nod at some point?

 

Olympic Swimming in a fucking NFL stadium is going to be so sick

 

A good way to tell what might be considered for the Olympics in the future is to see what non-olympic sports the USOC officially recognizes as affiliates

Ones that fall under this category:

• Ultimate Frisbee
• Cheerleading
• Ballroom Dancing
• 10 Pin Bowling
• Raquetteball
• Roller Sports (Inline Hockey, Roller Figure Skating, Inline Speed Skating, Roller Derby, ect)
• Kickboxing/Muay Thai
• Polo
• Orienteering
• Scuba Sports

For winter sports the only new one in 2026 is going to be Ski Mountaineering.
I read the IOC wants to eventually include Snow Volleyball (like Beach except in the snow with 3 players on each side instead of 2) as a winter sport but they're waiting for the sport to grow a bit more before they do.

Wild to me that netball isn’t in the Olympics.

It’s a pretty rapidly growing sport, and would be pretty competitive for medals.

That said, I don’t really care either way lol.

 

Modern pentathlon is such a weird sport, based on the test for military officers from like the 1700’s or something.

Apparently, they’re changing it after this Olympics, removing the horse riding and adding an assault course next time?

These weightlifters are so impressive holy shit

 

Team GB end on 14 golds, 22 silvers, and 29 bronzes. Not a great count for us at all, but the olympics has still been really fun and there’s been some awesome events.

Particularly enjoyed all the swimming, BMX, skateboarding, climbing, trialthlon, high jump, and pole vault.

Now to return to watching as much Premier League football as is humanly possible.

 

Those Italy ladies were absolutely incredible in volleyball. Made the US look like amateurs at times. I think the US got their first successful block of the match on the first gold medal point.
