Good song, but I am not sure I like that it's marked as a collaboration.

This is the first thing that came to my mind as well. My guess is that since his name (Andrew McMahon) has become more known, he wants to get more of his larger audience turned on to Something Corporate.

I’m all for new Andrew, and I like the song, but just like the last one, it feels like a wilderness vault song.

I get on one hand that this Something Corporate run seems like it has an end date of some degree, so I'm sure he wants to capitalize on his solo side, but it does some weird and disjointed to see it written like that.

not loving the vocal effects. not sure why they chose that stylistically for these new songs. but it's not bad otherwise.

Yeah this stinks…even if it was just an In The Wilderness song I’d be disappointed, but to attach SoCo to it makes it that much worse. 0/2 for me on the new “Something Corporate” cough cough not really songs.

I got the impression from his memoir that Andrew McMahon really struggled with being a good collaborator and wanted to control everything. I had hoped that he'd softened over time because there were great something corporate songs not written by him. But it doesn't seem to be the case.

andrews ego is gonna get the better of him, which sucks.

this sounds like another in the wilderness b-side, i dont hate it but it's def not a soco song.

Definitely not a SoCo song it sounds like a Wilderness song. I can imagine Mr. McMahon didn’t give up much control. Not a bad song by any means but just not SoCo.

And the titling of the track - I get that maybe they think it will bring in the Wilderness fans but surely most, if not all, know Something Corporate. Just feels very odd.

I find this comment thread incredibly negative and annoying. I'm here just happy for whatever scraps they give me. No pun intended.

I don't think there's anything wrongly directed in a negative light here. I'm happy they're doing shows and having a blast but these new songs are not really SoCo songs.

Incredibly negative but most people are saying the song is okay…

If I had to guess, it’s less about Andrew not giving up control vs. him/the band just choosing to release wilderness songs he’s already written.

And that’s the problem I have. These are literally just songs from Andrew’s vault and not with the SoCo band.

I would have loved a nice pop rock progression of their signature sound. I’m not expecting it to sound the same but I’d like to see something that reminds me of why I’m a big fan of them and the first two records. This just isn’t it

Still, I would love to catch them live if they come to the UK. I’ve seen Andrew a few times over the years and he never disappoints.

I agree. I have loved everything Andrew does. These two songs just aren’t resonating with me and the crediting of the tracks is ridiculous. They both sound nothing like Something Corporate. I love Wilderness too but it looks like he’s got an ego when you credit both tracks Something Corporate and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. So stupid when you know it’s just him writing this song and he’s the lead in both bands. I don’t see Ben Gibbard being that childish.

I can see it definitely coming off that way. I think as others point out though, it's probably that they think the SoCo name doesn't hold as much weight compared to Andrew's, especially after it has been dormant for so long. I do think they could have approached this in a different way though. Andrew's Apple Music page could have had 'featured on'.

Even with that, the songs just aren't SoCo songs to me...

I really like these two songs, ha. Do I wish they were a little more guitar and/or piano forward, like the SoCo of old? Probably! But I'm still digging them.

Hilarious thread. A band recording new songs after YEARS, but it's not them who recorded those to some hahah

Struggling to see where anyone is suggesting they didn’t record them…
