Reading this thread just reminds me how so much happens and it was a foolish dream to ever anticipate that the show could capture the magic and be given the time and budget to have a similar impact as reading. If it's cancelled after S3 as most think likely, it'll have gotten to some good stuff, but also left soooooooo much good stuff unrealized.

It also makes me want to reread the series but a) I'm slow and b) I mean... 14 books? who has time for all that? It took me a good 3 years to finish my first run though but that did include stopping around book 7 and going back to the start so I think I read 20(ish) WOT books in those 3 years. I'm a book a month person so yea, I don't think a reread is likely anytime soon.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Brings back good memories of experiencing it all for the first time.

 

Not done yet. A few more chapters to go. But a few more reactions...

I laughed so hard when I realized that Mat was using the Hinderstrap people as part of the fight. Grady had no idea.
I'm really shocked at how many have died... Egwene being the main one. I kinda thought all the Two Rivers group would live but wow. It was a good end. I should've seen it coming after Gawyn or even Bela! I wanted Egwene to reunite with Bela. Haha. Anyways, when it looked like Lan was dead I was angry. That would be going too far. Not my dai'shan!!! We've gone too far not to see the king of Malkier take back what's his!!! The chapter I just finished... Thom just casually killing his 5th Aes Sedai trying to enter the pit of Doom then going back to writing a ballad. So badass. Thom has always been one of the best!
Question I'm wondering... is Mat never going to have a moment with his father? Perrin just had a sweet moment with Master Luhhan. I feel like Mat is the only one that's avoided the Two Rivers. I'd like to see one Abel/Mat interaction. The most I've gotten is Tam and Abel talking about Mat.
Also, can't believe we still have not dealt with Padan Fain!

 

I couldn't keep my eyes open last night, so I finished today. I expected a longer epilogue for what happens after. It's so open ended!!! I'm happy for Rand to lead a simple life though. I figured he wouldn't be able to channel any longer when it was all over. But I still wish we knew more!!! What's with the pipe? Ready to read some theories now.

 

What are thoughts on the prequel with Lan and Moiraine?

 

It’s interesting and a quick read if you love their characters. Always kinda wished that trilogy was finished.

 

I have a friend who just finished the first book so I'm excited to talk about the series as he goes along this journey.

I just finished Path of Daggers. Still loving everything that doesn't have to do with relationships between men and women lol

Faile may be my last favorite character. Happy that Perrin has something to do now. Min has been so downgraded as a character since she got with Rand. Egwene as Amirlyn rules. Rand stuff getting very dark

 

She’s everyones least favorite character lol

 

Had to close my eyes to delete the spoiler but yeah, I’m through The Dragon Reborn and the only thing I’ve really complained to Garrett about is how damn horny absolutely everyone is

 

It's not even just that, it's the whole "why are men like this, women are like that" that seemingly every character does constantly

 

If you go way back, when I first read this series this was my biggest complaint too. It’s obnoxious. And it never goes away!

Semi-related: One thing I appreciate about Wheel of Time is that, no matter how well it does it at times, it at least tries to portray how a three millennia effectual matriarchy could potentially look. There are obviously men in power everywhere, but effectively with the Aes Sedai, women are much more powerful in the series. I think as we age out of the context of which it was written (mainly late 80s/all 90s popular feminism), some of this ages poorly while some of it is a really interesting view of things.

 

Got bored so I’m starting my 5th re-read of this series.

As a father now, the scene where Rand has to say a quick goodbye to Tam in Eye of the World wrecked me lol.
