I had a lot of fun with this movie, but I wouldn't call it "good".

Being dialed into every bit of comic movie rumor, gossip and hype from the 90's to now probably helped exponentially -- I have no idea how this plays to someone new. (If it plays to someone new?)

Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova genuinely ruled though.

    Die rad.

I did not enjoy this much. Right from the get go with the Nsync intro it was just so lame and cringe and left a bad taste in my mouth going forward. Swear words were just so forced because its a DP movie, but didnt feel that way in the first two. The DeadDog thing and his owner was dumb. All the Deadpools. The entire plot is so boring. Timeline bullshit needs to end. Cameos were fun for sure.

The people I saw this with were like oh cool Channing Tatum but they had no idea *why* it was him so I don’t think it exactly plays

How was my girlie in this movie? Did she do any fun stabbing?

It was done right though for those in the know unlike Nic Cage as Superman in The Flash.

But yeah, I don’t see this movie playing as well as No Way Home when it comes to people not in the know.

Tbf, if people don't like the fourth wall breaks, that's just the character. That's all he does in the comics lol

These movies do a great job at capturing the character. If anything, he is much more sane in the movies.

I also enjoyed the end credits BTS of the Fox films as a final tribute to that era.

Channing Tatum doing a silly voice helps the bit for people that did not spend years reading trades about how that Gambit movie was in development hell

Haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know how the bit plays, but I'm glad they didn't shy away from making jokes like that out of fear the audience wouldn't get it. You can't base your humor on whether a general audience will understand it.

The timeline is messed up again though. This film confirmed Logan takes place in the x-men/deadpool universe and that film takes place in 2029. That means this movie taking place in 2024 doesn't add up because Logan wouldn't have died yet.

Seeing this at 1030 tonight. My expectations aren't all that high except for the plot and the impact and rejuvenation I'm hoping that it'll have on the MCU. I have actually enjoyed a lot of the latest movies, but it has felt aimless at times so hoping this sets the tone and focus for what's next.

Either way, this kind of movie at 1030 on an opening Friday night seems like it'll be fun theater experience regardless.

    I would temper those expectations.

How do you mean done right? I thought they were just as poorly handled as they were in the flash. Useless cameo porn in a nonsensical/vacant story.

Not sure for two reasons: one is that since I moved back home I've gotten my mom into the MCU (Loki is her favorite and she's looking forward to Agatha), so I want to watch it with her, but I'm also on call this weekend and next so I'm paranoid about a server crashing while I'm in a two hour movie. We'll see.

Tatum's Gambit was handled with much more care than Cage's Superman.

I wanted/was intrigued by that potential
Gambit movies years ago, but having seen this iteration I’m actually glad it didn’t come to fruition. The language bit was a fun gag, but he didn’t work for me at all.

Rewatched the first two yesterday and after this I think I’ve just outgrown the humor or it’s too dated now plus all the Marvel issues. Kind of grating at times. Can’t lie and say I didn’t have some laughs or enjoy some of the fan service and cool moments, but really rough too at times, especially in the Void and with Nicepool.

Human Torch reveal and Tatum’s Gambit accent got the biggest laughs out of me.
