i don't really feel like that's accurate to him. he did kind of completely go away between green lantern and Deadpool, which somehow is only a five year gap and feels like a decade, but he only had voice roles, cameos, and tiny movies no ones ever heard of in between, with the exception of Mississippi grind

but I do feel like something changed with him. waiting is a good example but for the most part, his early career guy just felt like a gross sleazy desperate dude and this cringe version of him seems like it was invented in deadpool and is now in every movie of his. i wish he'd do something as offputting as his van wilder days again, at least it'd be interesting

The change between GL and Deadpool was marrying Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds is funny and I enjoy seeing him in movies. He's been in quite a few just eh or not great movies, but he's not the problem with them.

Exactly. He's an incredibly charming and funny guy in interviews

  9. I think most people would agree he isn't the problem with most of his movies in a vacuum, but it's still boring and kinda lame that he does the schtick so much. like i feel like he becomes the problem in those movies the more of them you've already seen lol

I think the problem with him is that he’s really not funny at all, plus he’s a guy who very much *thinks* he’s funny

When you get that big you have the financial security to branch out and lift up a lot of different projects, but he chooses to just keep doing the garbage. Adam Sandler will do an Uncut Gems once in a while, but Reynolds just turns the contract to the compensation page.

His whole brand of “did he just say that? Freaking epic!!” snark is extremely grating

Gamers are going to be insufferable if this leads to GTA VI getting delayed. Those people have much more loyalty to the companies than film or music and do.

I absolutely hate the animation style. Reminds me of Marvels What If

One of the (only) benefits of Twitter's For You tab, is that it seems to regularly recommend me links to complete filmographies of great directors recently, so just want to share more here too. If I'm just spamming this thread, please let me know and I'll stop though.

Every Kiyoshi Kurosawa film; 78.67 GB folder on MEGA

Every Edward Yang film; Edward Yang archive - Google Drive

Kiyoshi Kurosawa consistently made some of the best horror films from around the turn of the millennium, one of the best to incorporate the internet into horror films. His more recent films aren't always horror, but they do all have that slightly uncomfortable edge to them. I don't know much about his earlier films, but I think he got his start making seedy little films, so proceed with caution / with relish there.

Edward Yang is one of the greats of Taiwanese cinema, I'm not hugely well versed on his films, I've seen just four, but they're all absolutely wonderful, unhurried films that cover lots of ground, and never feel rushed. A Brighter Summer Day is the quickest four hour film I've ever seen.

Haven’t watched it yet but I recently downloaded Cure. I’m interested to check out Kurosawa’s other stuff

Pulse is very very good too. Would suggest either of them as a great starting point for him!
