This only works if when you speak about privilege you narrow the comparison to US citizen (and even then it’s questionable). Its privileged imo to think voting for a president only is actually mitigating harms very much, at least it has been that way historically. Consider this, how much more unspeakable harm has been lessened by our votes for Biden? We still had kids in cages, the dems even tried to pass a conservative immigration bill. Anti-trans bills are still being passed across the states. Roe fell and the opinion was leaked months before! and still nothing was done.
It’s also very privileged imo to vote for the likes of Joe Biden while he’s sending bombs to murder and making life hell for Palestinians because it might help you or people you’re more concerned about. It may still be justified and the best thing to do but it doesn’t make it not privileged by the same standard you’re using. I just think that kind of shaming is the wrong tactic, people upset about genocide aren’t withholding votes because of privilege. Win them another way

I really really hope he doesn't because I am pretty sure the backup is Tulsi Gabbard.

If he switches Vance out for Tulsi Gabbard I am going to start to get worried again. She is out there, but she has a charisma and a appeal that can be real challenging for the Dems. Plus she kinda embarrassed Kamala in the 2020 dem primary debates.

I’m not trying to use Palestinians as a scapegoat for not voting but throwing around the word privilege especially in this context in 2024 irks me. I thought that mentality was stomped out but I guess not

yeah but you can barely get people to understand how better education or health care funding/systems are connected to things like homelessness/welfare/etc lol. I think you gotta start off getting people to understand those issues closer to home first before you’re going to convince them what happens to people 10,000 miles away is going to affect them.

Hell I’ve grown tired of trying to get people to understand how even a 3.5% long covid rate will impact them, even if they aren’t the ones who personally get long covid. The effect it’s going to have on economic output and inflation and health care costs and etc. It just doesn’t compute in their heads/they can’t deal with thinking about it because of how uncomfortable it is I guess, idk. Just maddening.

(also ngl I do worry what more knowledge on foreign policy would do to many Americans if/when they realized how much American hegemony/dollar being the world currency benefits them as far as prices/inflation go. I don’t think it would turn evvvveryone into hawks/neocons, but…the reaction to this recent bout of inflation is worrying, to say the least)

Maybe, if you can point to any, but that’s not the point. I was responding to the idea that people reluctant to vote were doing so from a place of privilege.

Especially in a climate where... genocide is actively taking place and voting for either party isn't stopping it.

Tonight is a great night to donate to Palestinian relief :)

idk I think if anyone is arguing the Democratic Party has been pushed right since the 90s, they’re not arguing in good faith. Even a Biden presidency in 2024 has been far different than what I assume would have been a Biden presidency in 1988 or whenever it was he ran the first time

Clinton pivoted into Reagan neoliberalism, being tough on crime, continuing the gutting of social services. There’s an argument there.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying and think you have totally solid points. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend anyone, been having a rough time lately and haven't been thinking straight.
