So he restarted payments and then literally got nothing done on student loans for most people

Only decent thing i see Biden as having accomplished on student loans - and it only applied to a minority of borrowers - is getting the public service student loan forgiveness program in working order. My mom had a loan for my sister that she was able to get forgiven retroactively, and my wife will have her loans forgiven (presumably) in like 3 years. Under Obama and Trump, it was like no one was getting anything processed. But that’s really it, and it’s incredibly insufficient.

We lucked out as at one hotel we only had 3 workstations and 1 server affected and at the other my boss said there were 12 total, so that's not terrible at all. It could have been so so much worse.

Cannot fathom if every computer and server got hit, and I feel for the people having to deal with that.

Also, fuck Dell for making it way super difficult to bypass their shit to get to Windows Recovery.

As fucking pissed I am about the student loan crisis and my loans specifically and how much of a scam the entire system is …

I’m so relieved my wife is one of the few who benefited for being a federal employee. She got 20 of her remaining 30k forgiven and next year will eliminate the rest.

    My loans though??? Fucked

My job uses alarm.com and the whole fiasco impacts so many of our customers. It’s causing false communication failure alerts. You love to see it.

My best friend had one of his loans forgiven from the Art Institute of Boston, it was deemed predatory when they went for profit. He’s wondering what happens with it now.

At least I have a first hand, real world example of someone being helped by the action. I know for most it was basically just a pipe dream.

My fiance had all her loans forgiven and I got into PSLF. Not good, but absolutely better than anything before. I know this thread sometimes has a difficult time discussing the difference.

PSLF always existed though, it was just processed horrendously. He ran on forgiving loans and getting interest under control. He didn’t do that for the vast majority of borrowers and he restarted payments anyway.

Exactly. It's not good by any stretch but it's better than it was.

There was not even any legal fight about it is the worst part. Trump's talking about concentration camps and Biden's worried about overuse of executive power to help people with their predatory college loans. We can forgive a trillion to corporations but God forgive it we try to give it to lower-middle class struggling college graduates.

it's also like healthcare where I was able to get a good exchange plan but everyone should have healthcare and it shouldn't be based on employment

It’s wild that republicans can get people upset that the government is marking off a debt that mostly will never be paid anyway but yet those people aren’t outraged at the billions and billions of actual government spending we give to fossil fuel companies every year. Democrats should easily be able to turn that into a winning message except they also give out the billions to fossil fuel companies

I’ve paid like almost $20k on my $35k student loan since graduating in 2012 and my balance has gone up. I’m sure plenty of you have it even worse. That’s “fair” according to the Republican Party, of course.

I had another semi-private $30k loan used for tuition that was not eligible for federal consolidation. When I graduated in 2012, I was expected to immediately start making $800/month payments on it. I’d still be paying it now.

Graciously, my aunt and uncle bought it out with home equity and only charged me their interest. I paid it off almost 4 years ago, cause it was, you know, a normal loan.
