You're right, she went into the primary among the candidates most likely to succeed and flamed out almost instantly. Here she would go into the election at best in a tie (among the national popular vote) and in all likelihood down a few points in most battleground states.

The VP's job is, in part, to be an advocate for the administration and its agenda, and in that regard she's mumbled her way through as many incoherent sentences as Biden. She was also tasked with handling immigration and, in particular the US/Mexico border, and failed so bad that both sides hate the administration's policies.

 

It's insane that Kamala is damn near 20 years younger than Trump.

I mean, this does all change on a dime. 2020 was a different world than we're living in now, and the stakes have changed. Kamala would also have the entire democrat apparatus behind her, which would make her campaign look significantly different.

 

I also just don't think Whitmer would throw her hat in. She could genuinely win a real campaign, and I think she probably stands too much to lose if she lost to Trump now. She'd be the perfect retort in 2028 to the MAGA agenda.

 

It makes me fucking sick how much he's playing the role of a politician now.

I don’t really care for Kamala at all but Biden stepping down and being replaced by her would show like 5% more life and guts than the democrats have shown in over a decade.

And it’s exponentially more interesting than rolling a corpse up there to lose and die, at minimum

 

It doesn't all change on a dime though. She still would also have all the baggage of Biden, except the age, and that's not a winning ticket.

I also have zero faith in the "democratic apparatus" to accomplish anything other than fundraising.

They did win the 2020 election and have one of the best midterms in a long time. So, it's not like they're some dysfunctional organization that's breaking down and never wins anything. I don't think the baggage of Biden would matter as much given that the main thing that is weighing him down right now is his age and quiet temperament, but I think it's just about giving us all a better shot.

 

I think you're underrating the optics of having a candidate who doesn't look like a walking corpse and is at least somewhat coherent the majority of the time.

 

I think it’s more about just how bad of a candidate Trump is and how utterly bad Biden is. You don’t need that much to beat Trump, which is why anyone but Joe, including Kamala, gives people hope.
What is incredibly frustrating is there should have been an open primary which Kamala surely would have lost and we would have had candidates proposing policies to vote for. Instead we’re in this position where we know Biden is cooked and the only way he drops is with Kamala running and it sucks but we are where we are.

 

It also shows the hypocrisy of the gop because they're behind someone who's also old and attempted a coup

This is the big thing imo. Trump is extremely unpopular and he is not some master tactician. Biden is just also singularly unpopular

 

The GOP is hypocritical? this is new to me, someone ought to do something about that
