Reading this reminded me that recently my friend was like, “I want to throw an end of the decade Roaring 20s themed party in 2029.”

And I said, “Oh, you can do it for mine or James’s (her husband) fortieth that year.”

And we all sat in silence for a solid thirty seconds.

TIL that there is a sizable fan base of the German national team on the Indonesian Maluku Islands. They call the team "Der Panzer" (not sure how to feel about that...) and they seem to be very passionate and all around great people.

I love hearing of such stories. And it reminds me of some friends that I only met, because they happened to become fans of my local team for some weird reason without ever living in my home town or even in the near vicinity.

FIFA have a serious situation on their hands with this Argentina chant situation. Given the lack of thorough and detailed understanding of who was involved and who wasn’t and the fact we’ll never know to what extent everyone was involved. Do we see a blanket suspension for all players in the squad across their respective leagues? I feel like they need to step in here and put something in place across the board so it’s not left in the hands of many different federations and clubs.

Real Madrid really have it on easy mode if they want to lean even more into free transfers

    Mbappe this summer
    Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer
Alphonso Davies next summer if they even want him still
Leny Yoro next summer if they can convince him to sit tight for a year, could probably make do with Tchouaméni at CB for a season

And it's great money for the player and his agent. Cut out the other team as a middle man, give great wages and signing bonus + agent fee for less than the total cost of transfer fee + wages for a regular transfer.

Trent really worries me. He's won everything there is to win with Liverpool, set the career assists record as a defender, was so so instrumental to Klopp's style — why wouldn't he want to try something new? And to live in Spain? Guaranteed trophies? He's glommed on well with Bellingham, certainly a minor factor to consider. And Real Madrid will have clear need in that position soon. Carvajal will be 33 next summer, not getting any younger.

I get he's a local lad who came up through the academy, which is a connection I can never fully understand as an American. But Gerrard nearly left, and in fact did eventually leave even if it was to a league that was very much a retirement league (much more than it is now).

There are people on twitter or on podcasts who seem convinced he'll never ever leave. He's local, primed to be captain in a few years once Virgil ages out, which I get. There's plenty of reasons to stay. I just also feel like there's plenty of reasons to go.

I hope we get some clarity before the season starts. If we don't, then panic really begins. For now it's just some background anxiety

Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable. We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome.

We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate.

The Club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure.

    that is definitely a statement

Ornstein says we may still go for MdL or Branthwaite in addition to Yoro. Either one would be a crazy upgrade.

I wish there was a way to make fun of the French because in a vacuum, “your nation sucks at this sport so much you had to go get help” is a very funny diss. But immigrants are inherently whatever nation they now call home as well and it just sours the whole thing because that mindset is so detrimental to humanity as a whole.

There is a fine line, the Irish and Scottish rugby teams are bantered for having southern hemisphere players a lot. You get a lot of funny comments that are obviously pure jest but some definitely cross the line.

probably the funniest is the running joke that Josh van der Flier (previously world rugby player of the year) is South African and they claim him even though he’s Irish with Dutch ancestry. It’s light fun. But some do overstep the mark.

Yoro and Saliba as the French CB pairing of the next decade is scary, tbh.

(assuming Yoro continues to progress as expected)

Honestly, what's the difference between being held ransom by Lille and being held ransom by Everton? Not being an arse, just curious.

Yoro is younger and cheaper than Everton want for Brathwaite. He was seen as unmissable by the club which Branthwaite isn’t. He also plays on the right hand side where we’ve lost Varane from. Buuut it has been said we may still go back in for Branthwaite for the left side.

Fee for Yoro has raised €20m in less than a day. That’s crazy.
