I never would have seen this if you hadn’t tagged me, but man, that was worse than the national anthems I hear sung at local running races. Her albums are great, and she sounded terrific when I saw her live last year — one song of which was totally unplugged and in the audience. My guess is that she could not hear herself well and didn’t get a chance to rehearse in the stadium, which looks like an echoey mess.

My solution to all of this is to stop insisting that we play or sing that fucking hideous song before we can have any sort of athletic event. As someone who’s had to suffer through bad anthems before marathons, I can tell you that there’s not much that is less appealing as an athlete than listening to that shit.

 

They should just play that song 'Put me in coach! I'm ready to play! Today!' instead of the national anthem.
