I think it was Hasan a week or two ago who said something like " the smartest thing Biden could do is wait until Trump picked a VP before dropping out so the Trump campaign is locked into a strategy and would be harder to pivot to Kamala, but the Biden people aren't smart enough to drop out"

I think it’s more opportunism - Vance isn’t a fascist, he’s a careerist. Specifically a careerist working at the behest of Peter Thiel, who he owes any position and attention he’s ever had to. It’s gotten him this far. When he called Trump the American Hitler, it’s because liberals buying his book loved hearing that kind of thing from a Never-Trump Republican. Once it became clear Trumpism wasn’t a flash in the pan but instead the direction that the Party was going to go in, he pivoted to his blood and soil shit. If fascism helps him advance, he’ll use it. If normal moderate republican bullshit does that, then that’s what he’ll do.

His only real consistent preoccupation has been going after “welfare queens” and nuclear family bullshit which has been integral to neoliberalism since at least the Clinton years.

 

Nah governor picks replacement, he only gives up the seat if he becomes VP.

Also I don't know why Vance thinks he's going to get into something good... working with Trump is beyond a nightmare.

 

Oh I’m assuming he becomes VP. Just curious if it then goes to special election in the next cycle

 

If there's something positive in my own life to take from any of this it's that my mother is finally slowly starting to understand why I'm pretty sure I don't want to have children.

 

His turn towards conservativism all stems from when he worked as a bagger in a grocery store and he saw a black woman customer talking on a cell phone while paying with food stamps.

 

And let's not forget what came before the "American Hitler" comment.

His text said that he had not yet decided whether trump was just "a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even be a useful)" or "American Hitler."

That should really tell you all you need to know about the guy.
