Wait wait wait, she got a CULTS remix????? How extremely random but kinda badass

 

I'm conflicted between thinking Billboard charts don't matter and one person hogging the #1 spot for so long and not letting others have a piece of the pie is annoying lol

I know the music industry is a business to make the most money and/or have the best chart placements possible but still

 

This remix is quite possibly the worst remix of any song she's ever released, sorry Cults

 

“Annoying” is an understatement, lol. It also just feels extremely fabricated. At minimum, these charts should be able to serve as a historical record of which albums were big and dominant at which moments in time. Her effectively holding the top slot hostage because she has a lot of dumb fans who will buy 50 copies of her album on CD to help their fav stay on top distorts the reality of a year where there have been a ton of albums and discourse and dominance have shifted around a lot. She’s also not beating the “climate criminal” accusations but pumping out more and more plastic waste for her fans to buy and put on a shelf or in a storage unit somewhere.

I hope Zach knocks her out of the top spot. It’s time! It’ll be close. But the thing is, if he cared about this shit at all, it wouldn’t be close. He could have released on a Friday instead of as Thursday. He could have waited for vinyl to be ready to ship, instead of wanting to get the music out as fast as possible. He could have played the vinyl variant game, instead of just putting all his albums out on classic black wax. He could very obviously play the bonus track game, given how quickly he churns out material. He didn’t do any of that, which I frankly respect a lot.

 

This album had better not win album of the year at the Grammys, haha

re: an overreliance on plastic, i know she hasn't done much (if anything) with recycled vinyl, but she's incredibly reliant on jeweled cases, whereas others have been moving away from that for digipacks. aside from her book-styled records, has she ever done a digipack release?

 

I honestly have no idea, but I don't think so? Most of what I've seen of her stuff has been jewel cases, but I don't own any of her albums on CD.

 

I think they do kinda probably matter to people like Sabrina and Chappell and Gracie, like at this point a number one for Taylor is like getting Taco Bell for us

Does anyone have worse remixes than Taylor Alison Swift? There was maybe 1 remix of "Anti Hero" that I kinda enjoyed, but every other remix of her songs I've ever heard are baaaaaad.

 

I wonder if we’ll see one of her contemporaries ever call her out on this chart manipulation?

 

if you count the Old Timey version of Christmas Tree Farm as a remix, it's definitely much better than the original. that production style better suits the song than trying to make something that sounds like AIWFCIY.

 

When someone is ready to watch their career, house, and car get lit up in flames by SwiftiesTM, yes, I'm sure someone will call her out eventually.

 

She picks some pretty bad artists to do her official remixes. Four Tet and LP Giobbi have done some decent remixes of her stuff but they’re not offical. I just don’t think her stuff lends itself well to that vibe, you don’t go out to a club wanting to hear that many lyrics ha.

 

I don't really count the "versions" as remixes. I mean the ones that are specifically labeled as remixes.

 

the only other one i've heard was the remix of Love Story she stuck as a bonus track on the Fearless TV vinyl, which was meh. i don't think a song like Fortnight lends itself to a good remix unless it matches the sort of softer, almost Bazan-like lo-fi vibes she has going on in the song (one reason why i actually really like the song). let someone like Black Marble do a remix and then i'll be interested.

Whatever the tweet was that it was better when it was uncool to think about chart success was right.

Only us losers and nerds that cared about streams and album sales was better.

That said, it was still cool when Blink did it.

 

I'll only be annoyed if she does her surprised Pikachu aw shucks thing if she breaks all the records she's clearly very intentionally trying to break and acts like it's a big surprise to her. I'm sure if she ever gets louder criticism for it she'll say something about tearing down successful ambitious women and people will come to her defence again. It's a tale as old as time.

Did she rly never release a fortnight remix with Charlie puth tho cause that seems like a no brainer
